Thailand Launches Digital Immigration App to Speed Up Border Processing

Thailand’s Immigration Bureau has introduced a new mobile application aimed at reducing arrival processing times for international visitors while maintaining security checks at the country’s borders.

Digital arrival cards replace paperwork

The new system, known as the Thailand Immigration Management System (THIM), allows foreign travellers to complete arrival card information digitally before reaching Thailand.

Available on both Apple and Android devices, the application uses AI-powered passport scanning to complete a one-time registration process. Future visits will require only limited updates, reducing the amount of information travellers need to submit each time they enter the country.

Immigration officials say the system is designed to cut processing times at border checkpoints to less than three minutes.

Focus on security and efficiency

The platform was developed by Digital Identity Co., Ltd in partnership with Thailand’s Immigration Bureau and operates on cloud infrastructure hosted within Thailand through Amazon Web Services' Bangkok region.

Officials said the project was designed to improve efficiency without compromising border security. Traveller data will remain within Thailand in accordance with national legal requirements, while the digital platform is intended to strengthen identity verification and screening procedures.

The bureau has stressed that faster processing will not come at the expense of security measures, which remain a central part of the immigration process.

Expansion planned

Immigration authorities plan to expand the capabilities of the THIM platform beyond arrival registration.

Future updates are expected to include online visa extension services and digital 90-day reporting for foreign residents. Officials also aim to introduce automated border clearance for a wider range of nationalities.

The initiative forms part of a broader effort to modernise immigration services as Thailand continues to handle large numbers of international arrivals each year.

Unveiled at technology summit

The new system was presented during the AWS Summit 2026 in Bangkok, where officials outlined the role of cloud technology in supporting the country's immigration operations.

Thailand receives around 30 million international visitors annually, and authorities believe digital processing will help reduce congestion at border checkpoints while improving the overall travel experience.

Pol Maj Gen Pratya Prasarnsuk, deputy commissioner of the Immigration Bureau, said the bureau remains focused on balancing traveller convenience with the security responsibilities required at the country's borders.

Just searched for it (29th May 2026), 1 day after you claim it was launched, on both Apple & Android phones. Nothing there yet.

THIM is scheduled to launch on Oct 1 2026. a basic google search would have told you the correct launch date.

It's there, at least on my phone. Downloaded this morning.

Make sure you don't log out of the app. Doing so deletes the trip. Likely that will change if/when they introduce the one-time registration they speak of.

OK, thanks for that. 👍

The THIM app (Thai Immigration Management System) was officially launched on 28 May 2026.

  1. Amazon Web Services (AWS) official press release — dated May 28, 2026

  2. Digital Identity Co. (the developer) announcement — May 28, 2026

  3. Reports from Bangkok Post, The Nation Thailand, and other Thai media confirming the launch on that date.

Those dates are RELEASE dates NOT launch dates. Below see extract from press release referred to in #3.:

"Amazon Web Services (AWS), Digital Identity Co Ltd and the Thai Immigration Bureau have partnered to develop the Thailand Immigration Management System (THIM), the country's first web and mobile platform for this sector.

The app is designed to modernise immigration services for Thailand, which receives roughly 30 million foreign visitors a year, with Bangkok ranked the world's most-visited city by international arrivals in 2025.

THIM is scheduled to launch on Oct 1, developed by Digital Identity and leveraging AWS cloud services."

That can't be the THIM app that you're downloading it isn't being LAUNCHED until 1st October. The 28th may date is just the press release announcing that THIM is coming.

I used it when I flew out a couple of weeks ago and it was very smooth and there were no lines.

Good on Thailand for this, if only backwards nations like America would start using advanced systems, that would be amazing.

So now in addition to immigration, 5G networks and fiber optic are three times faster in Thailand than they are in America at a third the price, that's what I call progress.

It appears to be an app to store your details instead of entering the same stuff every visit which seems like a good idea? How do you use it to exit Thailand? I just downloaded it and it seems typically obscure, on the settings page there is the option to 'Log out' but nowhere to edit your details that you <may> have been logged in with? PS. I'm leaving in two days time so can I use it to speed my exit?

Dont bother... TigerandDog said it does'nt launch until 1. October, so what we all have downloaded is clearly a scam.

Dont forget that TigerandDog is always correct, and everyone else is wrong... even with proof!

I don't believe that's the real app, especially as the launch date isn't until October. I've been searching under THIM & Thailand Immigration Management System on both of my phones (Android & Apple). and no app displays as available for download & install. I've even had my wife search her phones in Thai, and again NOTHING.

I did a simple search for "THIM" on App Store (Apple) and it came up as the 2nd option...

Could it be that your Country on the App Store is set to something other than Thailand and it hasn't been realeased there yet?

Works pretty well for a fake. You can enter trip details and it even send you a fake email to confirm.

Sadly, as an American, I have long had to face that the USA has a heightened threat level due to its own wrongful actions causing pushback. That is again being reinforced as I am reading, "Cuba: An American History" by Ferrer.

Nope not that. VPN was turned off, so Thailand is the country where the server is located. Searched again and still not there.

I just did teh search again, with my VPN turned off so that the server was located in Thailand and still NO result searching under THIM or Thailand Immigration management System.

As for being fake, it's possible, or have you forgotten that the fake TDAC apps were launched before the official one.

Nothing to do with VPN, it's to do with the default country for the profile you're logged into your phone with & whether the App is available in that country.

E.g. My main profile is set to have Thailand as it's default country but when I need to download an APP that's geolocked to the UK then I have to either switch my Country (PiTA) or log-in with a different Apple ID that has the US/UK set as it's default country.

Edit: YT video might help if you're an Apple users....

@Upnotover , regarding log out.

No problem, you can log in as if you just installed the app and on home page under upcoming trips, select view more and go to join trip.

Trip id, in the email that they sent you, and

Passport number and your trip will be displayed

did you not read my first sentence in it's entirety My VPN was turned OFF, so the server is located in Thailand. Also it's a Thai phone number so need to make any changes. It's still NOT there on either Apple or Android.

Last Summer, when I flew into LAX, I didn’t even show my passport, as they now have facial recognition software setup, just walk up to the camera, get the green screen and go. I would also say, that internet service and 5G is much faster in the USA. In Thailand, Starlink is banned. Please get your facts straight!

Well, the TDAC that you get when confirmed is also a digital arrival to show immigration. Not clear, but at this launch event, did anyone ask if this means the TDAC will be scrapped?

The THIM only works as an app on phones. So they will either have to retain TDAC as it is for PC users or develop a web based THIM for them.

Occasionally, information appears that foreigners like us poor pensioners are not so welcome here, but now an old man like me is starting to see it from a different angle. With all these digital app solutions for both entry and exit, it seems as if they want us older people to stay here and not leave because we are not so interested and have no interest to spend half their lifetime on a 6-inch screen and a phone app. 😥

Lucky for you there is no app for departure so you are free to go with nothing more than your passport.

Did You read my replies?

It has nothing to do with VPN or where you bought the phone, it’s probably to do with your Region/Country settings on your Apple/Google profile.

Doesn’t mean the App won’t be available in your Region/Country but hasn’t been made available there yet.

It's on the UK Google Play Store - I'm in UK using my standard UK phone / SIM

Shan't bother with it until I've planned my next trip, by which time it'll doubtless have changed in some way, but then I'll install it on my Thai phone.
