Thailand Launches Digital Immigration App to Speed Up Border Processing

Thailand’s Immigration Bureau has introduced a new mobile application aimed at reducing arrival processing times for international visitors while maintaining security checks at the country’s borders.

Digital arrival cards replace paperwork

The new system, known as the Thailand Immigration Management System (THIM), allows foreign travellers to complete arrival card information digitally before reaching Thailand.

Available on both Apple and Android devices, the application uses AI-powered passport scanning to complete a one-time registration process. Future visits will require only limited updates, reducing the amount of information travellers need to submit each time they enter the country.

Immigration officials say the system is designed to cut processing times at border checkpoints to less than three minutes.

Focus on security and efficiency

The platform was developed by Digital Identity Co., Ltd in partnership with Thailand’s Immigration Bureau and operates on cloud infrastructure hosted within Thailand through Amazon Web Services' Bangkok region.

Officials said the project was designed to improve efficiency without compromising border security. Traveller data will remain within Thailand in accordance with national legal requirements, while the digital platform is intended to strengthen identity verification and screening procedures.

The bureau has stressed that faster processing will not come at the expense of security measures, which remain a central part of the immigration process.

Expansion planned

Immigration authorities plan to expand the capabilities of the THIM platform beyond arrival registration.

Future updates are expected to include online visa extension services and digital 90-day reporting for foreign residents. Officials also aim to introduce automated border clearance for a wider range of nationalities.

The initiative forms part of a broader effort to modernise immigration services as Thailand continues to handle large numbers of international arrivals each year.

Unveiled at technology summit

The new system was presented during the AWS Summit 2026 in Bangkok, where officials outlined the role of cloud technology in supporting the country's immigration operations.

Thailand receives around 30 million international visitors annually, and authorities believe digital processing will help reduce congestion at border checkpoints while improving the overall travel experience.

Pol Maj Gen Pratya Prasarnsuk, deputy commissioner of the Immigration Bureau, said the bureau remains focused on balancing traveller convenience with the security responsibilities required at the country's borders.

No use for those who do not own a smartphone due to medical disabilities! (yes, there are still a few of us).

However, in my case no problem as I have to use a wheelchair and on arrival in Thailand I am escorted from the aircraft directly through the VIP channel at Thai Immigration, presenting my passport and TDAC form. Very quick and no hassle.

So true, I was having a drink with a fellow Englishman on holiday a week or so ago. He was telling me that he has just bought Elon Musks satellite internet in order to get 35mbps. He said a lot of places in UK only have about 10mbps. When I told him my broadband averages 300mbps up load and download for around 500 Baht a month he nearly cried, and I am in the back of beyond.

I have a 1.5gb down fiber optic system with a 1gb up speed. Amazing speed. And very consistent. With True.

I also average 175mb on my cell. I am lucky if I get 30mb in the US. At twice the price. Asia rules. The US is falling behind.

Just searched for it (29th May 2026), 1 day after you claim it was launched, on both Apple & Android phones. Nothing there yet.

Maybe in your Apple App Store region it will be available later.

TDAC (Thailand Digital Arrival Card) = The requirement itself.
It's the digital form that replaced the old paper TM6 arrival card. You must submit your details (passport, flight, accommodation, etc.) before arriving in Thailand.

THIM (Thai Immigration Management System) = The new mobile app launched on 28 May 2026.
It’s essentially a better, dedicated mobile interface for submitting the TDAC.

The main difference is the current TDAC is a one-time use online form, nothing is saved so a complete new submission is needed on each entry. The new THIM is a multiple-use online form that can be updated with only the new arrival info as passport and visa status is retained but can be updated when visa and/or 90-day report due days change.

The naysayers will have a field day with this for sure, especially the ones who NEVER leave Thailand and despise change. You know who you are.

It appears to be an app to store your details instead of entering the same stuff every visit which seems like a good idea? How do you use it to exit Thailand? I just downloaded it and it seems typically obscure, on the settings page there is the option to 'Log out' but nowhere to edit your details that you <may> have been logged in with? PS. I'm leaving in two days time so can I use it to speed my exit?

No app required. Just a passport scan at the immigration area.

Have to wait and see I think this system only works if Immigration already has a scanned copy of your passport either via existing E-Visa application or your passport has already been scanned on a previous visit

The app is available now for pilot downloads and uses an electronic know your customer (KYC) process to verify user information against passport details.
https://www.bangkokpost.com/business/general/3262525/immigration-to-be-digitised-with-new-app

Sounds like person using THIM will be required to upload picture of themselves and that picture will be match against Immigration database

so 1st time visa exempt or VOA arrivals will be excluded from THIM

I used it when I flew out a couple of weeks ago and it was very smooth and there were no lines.

Good on Thailand for this, if only backwards nations like America would start using advanced systems, that would be amazing.

So now in addition to immigration, 5G networks and fiber optic are three times faster in Thailand than they are in America at a third the price, that's what I call progress.

Judging by the number of thumbs down, it appears that there are alot of embarrassed Americans on this forum.

Yup, 4th next month. Download app this morning and besides a few minor issues I find it very user-friendly. Great to have as much as possible related to IM in one place and look forward to the arrival experience

When you depart, you no longer need to see an immigration officer. Just a much preferred scan and you are on your way.

Those dates are RELEASE dates NOT launch dates. Below see extract from press release referred to in #3.:

"Amazon Web Services (AWS), Digital Identity Co Ltd and the Thai Immigration Bureau have partnered to develop the Thailand Immigration Management System (THIM), the country's first web and mobile platform for this sector.

The app is designed to modernise immigration services for Thailand, which receives roughly 30 million foreign visitors a year, with Bangkok ranked the world's most-visited city by international arrivals in 2025.

THIM is scheduled to launch on Oct 1, developed by Digital Identity and leveraging AWS cloud services."

Great clarification. Thanks.

This answers my last post and why Google Play store doesn’t yet have the App for Android.

Will just use the TDAC as usual on return mid June

I don't believe that's the real app, especially as the launch date isn't until October. I've been searching under THIM & Thailand Immigration Management System on both of my phones (Android & Apple). and no app displays as available for download & install. I've even had my wife search her phones in Thai, and again NOTHING.

Certainly available in Google Play Store (I'm in Thailand if that makes a difference) claims to have last been updated 24th of April 2026.

@Upnotover , regarding log out.

No problem, you can log in as if you just installed the app and on home page under upcoming trips, select view more and go to join trip.

Trip id, in the email that they sent you, and

Passport number and your trip will be displayed

Interesting, did you get any kind of 'welcome' eMail when you first opened the app after installation? Is the 'Trip ID' something obvious like your TDAC number or?

Yep. Your link shows it ...BUT on hitting Download, it states "not available for any of your devices"

I turned off my VPNe even. No good.

Maybe this is an Apple only app?

No, it works on my Android. Is your Google/playstore account set to Thailand? Anyway, as you've said, TDAC works fine,

I am in Switzerland. Using the Google App Store I could download the App. First search was for THIM, that one did not work. However using THIM Thailand did work. App looks ok to me. I will fill in all details for my next trip when I got my tourist visa.

When you submit a trip plan you immediately get an email confirming the following details.

Note that you need to go back into the trip to complete the health declaration within 72 hours of arrival.

Departure date is FROM Thailand, not from your point of origin. It's optional anyway, leave it blank.

That is a dream that will take decades... Thailand and especially Thai Immigration like to have copies.. The more the better. Even for 90 days reporting.... They have never heard of scan documents I believe,

At Phitsanulok IO, I do not need to fill in a form for 90 days, the Officer simply puts my Passport into a reader and up comes all my details. Print out the silly slip of paper they then STAPLE, (oh no!) into the back of said Passport, together with my TM30.

Hopefully it means that we no longer need to fill in all the forms for visa extension and visit the immigration office but only tick a box online that nothing has changed from last year and smile online.

And pay your Bht 1900 via QR code of course.

No. It asks the same questions and provides the same QR code. Both work (for now).

I was just reading about the digital entry/exit for foreigners coming to or leaving the EU. It sounds like an absolute horror-show. Glad I've no inclination to travel to Europe. Did that in the 1950s when I was a kid. Anyway, hopefully Thailand's "digital immigration system" will fare better than the EU's.

What about travellers who get in with a re-entry permit?

I mean, shouldn’t they wait for the IO to stamp it off?

Same as they do now, nothing has changed. Ensure that they get correctly stamped in until the date stated on the REP. As recommended elsewhere, enter the REP number in the (optional) Visa field (as is the case with the TDAC and earlier TM6).
