Thailand welcomes Myanmar President Min Aung Hlaing

Thai Prime Minister and Interior Minister Anutin Charnvirakul received Senior General Min Aung Hlaing, President of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar, at Government House in Bangkok at 10.25am on 6 August 2026.

Min Aung Hlaing is making an official visit to Thailand as a guest of the government from 6-7 August. The two leaders inspected an honour guard on the lawn outside the Thai Khu Fa Building before moving inside for official engagements.

Also present were Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sihasak Phuangketkeow; Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Ekniti Nitithanprapas; Deputy Prime Minister and Commerce Minister Suphajee Suthumpun; Defence Minister Lt Gen Adul Boonthamcharoen; Justice Minister Pol Lt Gen Rutthaphon Naowarat; Natural Resources and Environment Minister Suchart Chomklin; Labour Minister Julapun Amornvivat; Energy Minister Akanat Promphan; Deputy Transport Minister Phattharaphong Phatthanasit; and Deputy Interior Minister Jadet Thaithaset, alongside military leaders and other officials.

Talks and signing ceremony

After the guard inspection, Anutin invited Min Aung Hlaing into the Thai Khu Fa Building for photographs at its central hall staircase, the signing of the Government House visitors' book and an exchange of gifts.

The leaders held a smaller meeting before full bilateral talks at 11.20am in the Green Room of the Thai Khu Fa Building.

At 12.15pm, they witnessed the signing of agreements and exchange of memorandums of understanding, as well as a handover of assistance, at the Santi Maitri Building.

Myanmar's delegation for the full meeting includes Khin Maung Yi, Minister at the President's Office; Foreign Minister Tin Maung Swe; Electricity and Energy Minister Ko Ko Lwin; Labour Minister Khin Maung Soe; Commerce Minister Tun Ohn; Kayin State Chief Minister Saw Myint Oo; Tanintharyi Region Chief Minister Saw Naing Oo; Lt Gen Moe Myint Swe, chairman of defence industries; Dr Khine Khine Soe, spokesperson for the President's Office; Deputy Transport Minister Tun Lu; Deputy Home Affairs Minister Min Thu; and Myanmar's ambassador to Thailand, Saw Saw Soe.
