Three US Tourists Face Visa Revocation in Koh Phangan Over Misconduct

Koh Phangan district authorities in Surat Thani have decided to seek the revocation of visas for three US nationals of Israeli ethnicity. This action follows concerns that the individuals' behavior could disrupt public order. The case will be forwarded to the Immigration Police for further review and action.

Get today's headlines by email subscribe-orange.png

The decision was made during a meeting led by Paisit Thongjerm, the Koh Phangan district chief, who chairs the area's Committee for Screening the Behaviour of Foreign Nationals. This marks the committee's fifth meeting of 2026. Attendees included various law enforcement and administrative officials, emphasizing the importance of maintaining order.

The individuals were reportedly seen carrying a flag with a religious symbol and allegedly encouraging people to join a group via WhatsApp. They were also said to have distributed leaflets to promote an activity in Koh Tao subdistrict, which raised concerns among locals and tourists alike. Businesses and residents feared these actions might lead to unrest.

The authorities have taken this step to ensure the safety and confidence of tourists and residents. The immigration police will now consider appropriate legal actions based on the report submitted. Koh Phangan officials remain committed to cooperating with all relevant agencies to uphold public safety and order.

And what about the American "missionaries", in black suits, white shirts and socks, mostly on bicycles, who want to convert the happy Thais to sad Christianity?

First of all....they aren't Christian "Missionaries". Second, where do you get "sad Christianity" from, your own imagination? The thing that is so sad is that people who have an axe to grind use such platforms such as these. Your comment doesn't seem full of happiness and joy by the way.

Correct! There is no "Israeli ethnicity", only a "Jewish ethnicity".

I am not sure either is correct. Judaism, or Jewish, refer to a religion, not a race. Israeli is a nationality not a race.

There are Moslem and Christian Israelis, along with a smattering of other religions and sects.

There are Israeli jews with backgrounds from many European and other countries, truly a mongrel country ....... just like the USofA.

Perhaps they should be called Arabs, living as they do in a corner of Arabia?

If these aren't Christian missionaries, what are they? Muslim Brotherhood? Or funny Blues Brothers?
And as for sad Christianity, isn't that the religion that promises eternal damnation if you don't follow certain rules, such as chastity, and make believers afraid of doing wrong? Why do so many enlightened people leave the church communities? You don't seem to understand.

They're not exactly Christians; they're Mormons.

And you're missing out on some of that snazzy special underwear they sport, called "The Garment".

It's the only faith I know of that actually was started by a Snake Oil Salesman. While many people say religious proselytizers are snake oil salesman, Joseph Smith WAS such a salesman, at carnivals back in the 19th Century. He was also illiterate, though that is a common trait among the founders of faiths. Mo was illiterate, and there is no mention of Jesus being a scribe, which is why the books outlining his teachings were authored by the likes of M, M, L & J.

This is well known, nevertheless: Mormons are also Christians: they are 'Members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints'.

This is a new one and very strange at that. So NOW you're telling us the ethnicity of foreign nationals. Good so far but what's this "Israeli ethnicity" concept? Don't you mean Jewish? Israel is the state of the Jewish people in case you didn't know.

Perhaps they are dual nationals. I feel very strongly against Jewish Americans who get Israeli passports, serve in the IDF (Israeli Occupation Force), and then return to America. I have nothing against most American Jews, although I've only known a few, but the Zionists are bad.

I think Thailand should be careful. Many Thais rely on Israel for work and money. What would you do if Israel reciprocated?

Problem is that the Israeli state condemn any criticism of their actions as being antisemitic, they refuse to separate religion and state. That would be like Starmer saying any criticism of the UK is anti christian, as King Charles is also the head of the Church of England.

The use of religion in politics is never ending and needs to end, we all need to move on

They are Israelis holding dual citizenship with the U.S. A sizeable percentage of Israelis do this.

The reports don’t say that. They could well be of dual nationality but it doesn’t say that. Or maybe the facts got lost in translation. Or maybe the publications were afraid to say “Jewish”.

We don’t want unruly people causing trouble on our beautiful island send them packing

Thailand doesn't need anyone who is unruly or causing trouble. There are literally thousands of such foreigners in Thailand who fit the description. One need only look at the police reports for the districts that attract such people.

However, I don't think the 3 plump fellows in question were causing as much trouble as the people getting drunk and crashing their vehicles, or stabbing others or brawling on the street etc. It hardly stands out as a significant crime, or even an actual crime since there was no property or economic damage, nor reported injury . It wasn't even a foreign flag they were carrying. It was more of an advertising banner, that few people if any, could even understand. I had no idea what the lettering was. And now that we know that promoting a Whats App chat group is illegal, it is our duty to report any such groups as contrary to public order.

Where did the news post say it was a national flag? I only read that it contained a religious symbol.

Maybe the Thai’s stretched a point.

It’s their country, they can do what they like. Personally I’ve no axe to grind.

The knives are out for "Israelis" in Thailand.

They've worn out their welcome.

It sure looks that way.

Until recently, an incident like this would have been dealt with much differently.

A talking to by the cops, maybe a small fine or some tea money, but a revocation of visas... I don't think so.

It just goes to show the extent to which Israelis, and those perceived to be Israelis have become unwelcome guests in Thailand.

They have been from at least 1973, I was stationed here 73-75. One them told me Thai's can be buddhist and christians at the same time. I remember thinking "NOT".

Haha exactly - first time EVER I see them mentioning the ethnicity instead of "British" or "French" when they're obviously from Africa or ME.

Seriously you have way to much time on your hands to bother looking that up.

I was about to ask how can you have Israeli ethnicity. But surely you can't have Jewish ethnicity anymore than you can Christian, Muslim, Buddhist or Hindu ethnicity. You would have to have agnostic and atheist ethnicity as well. Just about sums up Israel to make such a statement. What are the non Jewish people who live in Israel if not Israelis?

They were carrying a “Moshiach” flag.

It is a fringe Jewish group that espouses the coming of the messiah. Followers evangelize their beliefs around the world.

It is controversial, even in Israel.

Is there any connextion with the "Lubavitch messiah"?
