Tourist fined after driving onto Phuket beach

A tourist has been fined after driving a car onto Layan Beach in Cherng Talay, Phuket, prompting police to reiterate that the island's beaches are not places for vehicles.

Cherng Talay Police Station said the driver was dealt with for causing nuisance or disturbance in a public place. The offence carries a maximum fine of 10,000 baht, although police stated in this case the amount imposed was 5000 baht.

Vehicle driven across beach sand

Beachgoers raised concern after seeing the car being driven over the sand, an area intended for people to walk, relax and enjoy the coast.

Authorities said beaches are not designated for vehicle use.

Driving on them can disrupt other visitors, create safety concerns and damage the coastal environment.

In its public message, Cherng Talay Police asked residents and tourists to help protect the environment, follow traffic rules and preserve Phuket's scenery. The force said this was important for public safety and the appearance of the local area.

Public nuisance fine

The public-place nuisance provision used by police can result in a fine of up to 10,000 baht. Authorities said regulations are intended to protect both visitors and natural resources, while maintaining Phuket's standing as a safe and sustainable destination.

Phuket's beaches are among the island's main attractions for tourists and long-term foreign residents alike. Police stressed that tourists remain welcome to use them, but must do so in accordance with local rules.

I opened this thread expecting to see it was a 4WD and the driver wanted to do some "dune bashing."

What an idiot. Look at the vehicle he went on the sand with.

I bet the tow truck driver was rubbing his hands together. 😂

What was the purpose of doing this?

This is not a Tesla Truck, for example.

The Tesla Truck can drive in the sand and in the sea.

How could this driver not know that he would 100-percent end up mired in the sand.

Did he expect to not pay a find for his actions?

Therefore, from a cost-benefit perspective, this is just not logical.
