Hong Kong scraps 24-hour BBC World Service radio channel despite criticism

    HONG KONG (Reuters) - Hong Kong's public broadcaster RTHK dropped a 24-hour BBC World Service channel from its airwaves on Monday, replacing it with state radio from China in what critics say is a sign of encroaching Chinese control in the former British colony.

      LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - A smattering of rain and easing temperatures helped more than 1,000 firefighters battling the largest wildfire in Los Angeles history gain the upper hand on the blaze on Sunday, but officials warned that danger remains.

      14 year old Phang Nga girl raped by 40 local men

      On September 3, the mother of a 14 year-old girl from Takuatung, Phang Nga, reported to Kokloy Police that her daughter had been raped by 40 men from the same village – repeatedly from May to October last year. There are 3 men charged over the case so far.

      Srisuwan petitions NACC against police chief, others over Red Bull heir

      BANGKOK: -- Srisuwan Janya, secretary-general of the Thai Constitution Protection Association, on Monday (Sept 4) filed a petition with the National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC) against national police chief Pol Gen Chakthip Chaijinda and other officials, accusing them of neglect of duty in their handling of the hit-and-run case against Red Bull heir Vorayuth “Boss” Yoovidhya.

      PHUKET: The rightful owner of the pregnant buffalo that was involved in a fatal motorbike collision which left a 25-year-old motorcyclist dead on August 20 has still yet to come forward, as the animal continue to struggle to heal from its broken legs and multiple wounds, a caretaker said on social media yesterday (Sept 3).

      Southern leaders, military prepare for Rohingya migrants

      Authorities in Ranong and Pang Nga southern provinces met with the military on Monday in response to fighting in Myanmar’s Rakhine state that resulted in an influx of Rohingya displaced persons to Bangladesh.
