Help! Can's Do It Myself!

My non imm visa just expired on the 31st of Dec, but I've lost my passport!!!

I'm An American citizen and 21 years old and am married to a Thai citizen if that makes any difference.

Will I have to leave the country? How much is the fee if there is?

Please help.... have no idea what to do...

Try calling your embassy first. :o

best you headto you embassy as soon as possible and get them to assist you in sorting it out. Overstay fees are only about 500bt per day to a max of 20 000bt so don't be too worried

Have you made a police report on the loss yet? That is step one. When you have that you visit the US Embassy and apply for a new passport (photos/fee required). They should be able to advise you about your overstay problem as that is likely to be an issue if you have not yet reported the loss and are on overstay. Suspect you will have to wait until your replacement passport is issued to settle matters and there will very likely be a charge of at least 500 baht per day of overstay. I would plan to have husband with you if possible when you visit immigration.

police report is the most important thing. since ur holding a non-imm u should file a loss complaint with pathumwan police headquarters. if, and it has happened, they refuse not to make it out, go to tourist police headquarters and file an identical complaint there.

important: your embassy will not help with replacing ur passport unless u have filed that report. since by now u are on overstay u should be prepared to anticipate any related difficulties.

also important: being american does not help, being married to a Thai also does not help.

and yes u will have to leave the country.

good news is u will be back 3 days later.

cheers
