webfact
Traffic lane mix-up leaves Chinese tourist injured in Phuket By The Nation PHUKET: -- A woman just arrived from China was injured early on Thursday when a car rented and driven by her friend crashed head-on with an SUV on a Phuket road after entering the wrong lane. Police said the 5.59am accident occurred on Choeng Thale-Thalang Road in Thalang district’s Tambon Thepkasatree. The injured tourist was identified as Jang Su Ting, 32. The car in which she was travelling with three friends – two men and another woman – crashed head-on at a curve in the road with an SUV driven by Phuket resident Thinida Poksakul. The four Chinese had just arrived by air and rented the car to drive to their hotel. The driver evidently moved into the oncoming lane at the curve, momentarily forgetting that the direction of traffic flow is different in Thailand. Thinida, heading to work at the airport, did not see the oncoming car in time. Police said she and the other Chinese tourists were wearing seatbelts and escaped injury. It was the Chinese driver on the wrong side of the road......not the Thai. Not a bad attempt at a Thai bash but selective quoting really makes you look foolish. I'm also aware of a family of 4 aussies who died leaving Rome airport quite a few years ago after exiting on the wrong side of the road. But this has no relevance to you misinformed thai bash in THIS thread.

Reigntax
The Chinese driver, Hin Wong Wa stated she saw a flag in the distance and just started to follow it while being distracted searching for the closest 7/11 store on her phone. She also stated the car rental company was clearly at fault as she requested an automatic car due to never having driven before and unlike her buffalo back home, the car failed to keep itself on the correct side of the road. He wasnt Thai bashing, just noting the similarity between Chinese and Thai in regards to their expert driving skills and road awareness and how quickly foreign tourists become accustomed to local driving practices.
