Bluetooth at DELL 1440 gone after several updates

Recommended Posts

I've upgraded my older DELL notebook 1440 Inspiron from W 7 to W 10 Pro when Microsoft offered the free upgrade, but I can't get my Bluetooth working anymore.

DELL's got a great support website but it doesn't seem to cover such older products. When I check my BIOS settings I can see that I've got Bluetooth, but I assume that it's a driver issue. When I check the Device Manager, the Bluetooth is hidden.

I recall that I had to use another ( Lenovo) driver after the second major update a long time ago to get Bluetooth running. After wasting so many hours with troubleshooting, I finally give up.

I've tried a Bluetooth USB dongle, but it's not how I want it to work. Does anybody have a solution to my problem? Thanks a lot in advance.

Have you tried Fn + F2?

Type msconfig in the search area and double click to get in. See if Bluetooth is under Services.

You can also check to see if the device shows up in Control Panel / Device Manager as something missing a driver.

I've previously needed to source and install model specific Win8.1 version drivers for devices that didn't have working Win10 drivers.   You could also find the specific chipset being used and see if the OEM has Win10 version drivers that can be installed.

That's always the first I'd do at my Dell, but it doesn't work. Thanks a lot for your answer.

Thanks a lot. I've had Bluetooth ( the older version) as hidden files in Control Panel. I've tried Lenovo drivers because the DELL ones didn't work/ too old.

That worked all well until the last big update of W 10. I'm working on it, but see it as wasted time.

Perhaps giving the ball to Dell might be a great idea. They should be able to come with a solution.

Their offered drivers do not work and I'm a sort of fed up with it. It's not that I don't understand how to do it, there's just not the driver that's needed for such an older model.

Lenovo seems to care more about their customers.

There were two parts to his response, (1) asking if you tried Fn+F2 and (2) asking if Bluetooth is listed under Services.

That's a really old laptop. Dell only shows drivers for Windows Vista 32/64 and Windows 7 (32/64).

You MAY want to follow the instructions on the first page of this Microsoft Community post.  This was the 'original' fix found in 2016 ... but might not work with the 2017 editions of Win10

If you can't find a working  OEM Win10 driver for whatever chipset is in the "Dell Wireless 365 Bluetooth Module", and you need Bluetooth support...  you may just want to buy an Nano USB Bluetooth adapter and call it a day

Hi and thanks a lot. Mt sincere apologies that i didn't get back earlier. I finally found the culprit, but it was more than difficult and two technicians from MS gave up on it.

I've tried at least 30 + different drivers, the one offered on DELL"s webpage doesn't work.

Even when you manage to open the file ( it shows a warning in red that it's not a safe driver) you'll only be disappointed when you see that the driver isn't compatible with the newest W 10 Pro, including updates.

Here's the solution and I'm certain that some others with the same problem will be happy to read that.

I found the right driver, a broadcom- 12.0.0.9980, but on the website it shows the driver

   12.0.0.9885 !!

on: http://www.driverscape.com/manufacturers/dell/laptops-desktops/vostro-1440/16215

The setup takes a few minutes, but all is working really nice and smooth. Thanks again.:jap:

My notebook is a DELL 1440 32 bit, but I guess also other older (DELL) machines will work with this driver.

It's easy to make a compatibility test before you run the file, if it's not the same brand/type.

P.S. I've got Bluetooth Dongles, but I do not want to carry them around with a notebook every day. And I need it daily.
