Government eyes 3.03 trillion baht revenue from tourism next year

not sure why the old boys are saying he should welcome retirees with open arms. the article is about tourism revenue. the rules for retired people are pretty clear and easy to follow. 90 day reports, certain amount of money in the bank and no ownership of land, the same as everyone. just get used to that's how it is. you're as welcome as the next foreigner. maybe when you are chucking brown envelopes on a weekly basis full of cash to them they might treat you as 'special'. that's generally reserved for high earning criminals at this point in time i'm afraid

A quality tourist in Thailand

1 Respects the culture and religious traditions.  Especially while visiting temples.

 

2 Spends their money, saved for vacation according to their budget.

 

3 Avoids public drunkenness.

 

4 Don't operate motor vehicles without proper License or knowledge of the local traffic laws and roadsigns.

 

5 Don't spew profanity and disrespectful angry outbursts.

 

6 Try to enjoy nature and the diverse beauty of Thailand.

Of course if your married to a Thai you get in for half price (400K in account )

 

But forget that as the point was as the poster I was replying to said

Exact amount aside looking for more " long-stay retirees" that can meet the basic requirements in place today is a good earner

After you have ticked off the Grand Palace, realized you do not want to visit another temple, seen the shopping plazas are more expensive, and often the same shops as back home.  When you have tried the river taxis, the skytrain and underground and found them horribly crowded and they don't go many places and discovered the few taxi drivers who do understand you also don't have working meters. And the heat, the pavements, the difficulty crossing a road......

He wants to keep the Hi-So's happy obviously.  Bangkok can be good fun, but all development seems to happen there at the expense of everyone else.  Not a good step towards reconciliation or national development.  Other places should be given a chance to perform without government getting in the way, which has just happened.

As for attracting 'quality' tourists, he'd have to be looking at demolishing most of Pattaya's and Phuket's Walking Streets, for that objective to stand any chance. If they renamed them Porking and Extorting streets, that would, at least, keep the nice folk away.

 

Just where they're going to tip the sewage from those beach back-up streets, that would be an excellent 'job' for P1 to get his teeth stuck into. If he was to come up trumps, there, he and his clean-up squad could all proudly wear the T-shirt - 'Come on . . . spend longer and worthy time in Amazing Thailand'

Longer and worthy????? Is he now extending his power to suggest how long tourists should stay and how they choose to spend their time in Thailand?

Hey boss....start with revamping the ridiculous visa situation and let tourists do what they choose on their holiday, otherwise forget the 3 trillion revenue ambitions.

Are they blind? They already have the quality retiree-expats who have purchased property,  good and healthy monthly revenue but who get hassled on immigration issues...perhaps they should start to ease a bit the immigration hassles if they want to keep the quality expats in the country....

 

And please don't get a thick head as the type of high spending tourists you are aiming for prefer to spend their summers in the Monaco area or southern europe, and spend their winters in the Caymans or the Maldives...they won't come to spend the amounts you expect in Thailand...so cool down please and treat your quality guests that are already in the kingdom with a teeny weeny bit more of hospitability and assistance....and the cash flow will follow!

If the locals jump off a bridge, will you follow.  Thais do these things, of course the culture is eroding due to western influence and the internet.   You can either be part of the problem, or part of the solution.

Been here 3 years.  never a problem with my retirement visa or anything else for that matter.  Jomtien/Chonburi does a great job dealing with largely the dregs of society.  I have complimented them on numerous occasions on the great job they're doing.  Nice staff there.

Pollution at the beaches unfortunately is a problem.  I have no problem getting along with Thais.  The truly psychotic population  are the farangs, IMHO.
