Only a matter of time before you do die on a pushbike on Thai roads.

Hope you've got decent insurance that will cover when the inevitable happens.

or i could drown or get hit by my board while surfing, or i could blow a knee wakeboarding, or i could be riding my bike downhill in the actual bush and break a collar bone.

you stay on the couch, its only a matter of time before you die there too.

im amazed at the HUGE number of negative responses here from people who do not cycle, never have cycled, or more simply put inhabit the sofa without any exercise whatsoever.

good for her i say.

i hope she enjoys the ride.

Buggerall to do with being a couch-potato. Everything to do with being a moron. I ride a bike all the time.  In the gym.  I also drive many thousands of kilometres here, accident free by some miracle, but like anyone who has been here more than the time it takes to get to a hotel from the airport on their first time here will know it is a war zone on the roads.  Number 2 in the world for god's sake.

These are not NEGATIVE responses, merely good advice to try and save the stupid tart's life.

Tell you what, I'll do 1000 hours on my little gym bike that goes nowhere and you do the same round Thailand, sticking to the verge mind, in shorts, with a dumb smile, and let's see who is healthier at the end.

If it was a bloke I'd have called him a <deleted> - does this make me a feminist?

Meanwhile Chiang Mai has become an international cycling hub, and sport cycling is a huge sport all over Thailand now. Not that anyone on this forum would notice. She is correct that she is very unlikely to have an accident being so far over to the left, but she should stay off the largest roads, especially the deadly highways 1 and 2

Obviously people on 'this forum' are as blind as bats and only move from couch to fridge. How could anyone not notice the darn pests who think they own the road, 4 abrest, with their stupid neon lycra matching suits and ridiculously annoying flashing front lights designed to blind road-tax paying motorists with enough to contend with already without this lot.

lonesome little missy is gonna look pretty daft when she meets the business end of a Vigo doing 160.

So many cyclists are killed here it is quite remarkable. She is incredibly naive and stupid if she is not worried. Killing people on the roads is one of the areas where Thailand truly excels.

Two British cyclist killed on the Thai leg of their round the world trip: http://www.samuitimes.com/two-british-cyclist-killed-thai-leg-round-world-trip/

AROUND THE WORLD CYCLIST KILLED IN THAILAND: http://www.richardbarrow.com/2015/02/around-the-world-cyclist-killed-in-thailand/

Etc.

Ahummm,...why do you only talk about foreign cyclists ??? as if there are no Thai cyclists that die on the roads ?!?!?

Ignorance is a bliss

- it can protect against worry

A quick google search for 'around the world cyclist killed thailand' should help clarify things for her.

Well it's risky, that's for sure; but it can't be that risky since I see plenty of Thai guys in their lycra, and presumably they don't all have a deathwish. Hopefully she'll make it OK. Actually, this whole cycling around the world thing (a bit like climbing Everest) seems to have become almost commonplace, or at least not that unusual, and most seem to survive, even the solo women. No doubt many will have a few hairy stories to tell their grandkids but I would imagine the chances of coming out the other end intact, statistically speaking, are pretty good.

Now, if a certain island were on her route ... .

Absolutely correct. People here don't seem to be able to see beyond their barstool.

Thanks for that is words if wisdom gramps, if I ever come into a free supply of viagra give you a call.

:clap2: You people seem to forget that older people have avoided or survived many things to get where they are, one or any of which may get younger people before they reach old age.

The 21 year old cyclist say SHE is not worried. So be it. It is no different from someone not being worried about skydiving, zip lining, parasailing or swimming on beaches with red flags.

So she has done Europe, America and Australia in 2 months !!

No wonder she's not worried, should only take her 2 days to cycle all round Thailand...

Was thinking the same thing myself.  In 2 months has done Europe America and Australia?,???  She will.be 1/2 way across India. by now.  Hope her confidence is fulfilled.

I cycle every day in Bangkok, which has to be one of the most dangerous and cyclist-unfriendly cities in the world.

I would never allow myself to do what she is planning. When I do inter-city travel in Thailand, the bicycle goes into the luggage compartment and I grab a seat in the coach.

I hope she makes many videos and puts them on the internet like other bicycle tourists so I can watch them and be glad it's not I going through the boredom, agony and high risk.

Cyclists should not be allowed to be roadside, without being on a separated bicycle lane with high-speed cars whizzing by, anymore than should there be roadside pedestrians.

How many pedestrians do we see walking along the "edge" of roads with backpacks (or without!) doing an inter-city walking "tour"? What's the difference between a roadside pedestrian doing 5 kph and a cyclist doing 15-20 kph? (rhetorical question)

IMO, cyclists should understand that most roads are not designed for cycling so they should not be sharing the roads that were designed for, and populated with, relatively high-speed motor vehicles.

Or, on the other hand, maybe I'm just in a bad mood today because I got cut-off or ignored too many times by motorists because I was only a cyclist.

That having been said, Good Luck to her (because Good Sense seems to have failed her).

I have to call BS on that. You were never physically fit and that is why you have such resentment towards young people who are out there living their lives. But I'm happy for you that you're happy I'm sure that will work out well until you're "lady" cuts off your penis while you're sleeping.
