Hello,

is anybody using paysbuy omise payment on his website / shop ?

Are they stupid enough to require a registered company for a Thai business as many of them ?

Or are they as smart as Paypal that doesn't care if you are registered or not, especially if you are Thai and/or live in Thailand ?

Thanks.

Hi, I am a web dev and specialise in do a bit with gateways... I have done a bit in Thailand but with regards to pay at the counter linking to magento and through klasikorn linked to API`s. I did it for a large company though so they had obviously it all registered as a company and proper merchant accounts etc.

For paypal, youd be suprised how they view Thailand, they really do not like Thai ip`s, also if you sign up to paypal from Thailand they will ask for ID and generally scan you out more. I had issues with ebay a while ago, I wont go into detail but they also dont like Thailand, they class it as a high risk countery for computer fraud, which I doubt it is compared to the UK but I digress..

Reading a bit on Omise, I quote from reuters
'The idea behind OmiseGO is to share funds beyond peer-to-peer payments, in a network that does not require a bank account nor incur fees or cross-border costs.'

This said, the main issue most have with gateways is getting a merchant business bank account, which to get you need to show you have a registered business. For example in the UK sagepay wont let you use the gateway to capture payments online and sent it to a personal account, it would need to be a business merchant account and youd need to wait x time for them to contact your bank.

If I was you I would just ask Omise but it doesnt seem like you'll need anything in regards to getting setup. Another good thing with these guys and paypal I guess it you dont need to be PCI complient or have an SSL cert as they capture the details on there secured server.

Check https://www.omise.co/docs

Looks like you just need to sign up and use the API doc to implement, or if your using wordpress or a known platform theyve probably got a module out for it to install.

(you might want to move this post to the IT section for alot of the digital nomads here probably are clued up onit)

Cheers

Ryan

Only time I've heard of OmiseGO (OMG) was as an ICO token.

That aside, a quick search indicates that you can do P2P transfers, which suggests that it is more like a PayPal type compliance than a merchant account for credit/debit cards.  There might be some transaction limits, different cost models etc.

I guess if it allows you to do bank transfers of small sums as you can within Thailand as an individual, except having more convenience and the ability to do international transfers (where T/T is cost prohibitive and too slow for buying a McDonalds or 'cup of coffee' type transactions, then you're probably safe.  That said, you could ask them directly to be sure you're not going to get hassles.

I signed up to PayPal from here inside Thailand with a Google mail account. I then attached that PayPal account to my Kasikorn bank account, and my KBank Visa Debit card. I had no problem doing this, and I was never required to give any sort of ID to PayPal.

If you step into the sign process at Omise, on the second step you will see the following:

Note that a bank account and an address in Thailand will be required to enable your live account.

That said, they do provide special rates for "SME's", and I suspect that this may require a registered business.

  • 2 months later...

Im looking for a means of accepting card payments for my Thailand based company and a potential software application we want to sell so thanks ryanhul for the mention about Omise as I hadn't heard of them before,

I already contacted SiamPay and they emailed me a long list of requirements which we probably could accommodate but we are just starting up the project and just want to test it out and it looks like Omise might be a bit more easier to get started with on a smaller scale and with what potentially maybe lower fees. The system looks similar to that of Stripe. I'll probably try to sign up. Anyone else had any experience with a merchant account for a small Thailand based business?

Also, our Thai company was given a savings account at Bangkok bank which is an account that doesn't have a debit or credit card available and all transactions are 'over the counter' only with a company stamp so its not possible to pay for online services such as advertising, hosting, and everything else, from this account.

I asked at one of the smaller Bangkok bank branches and they told me I needed to ask for a checking account at one of the larger BKK bank branches although I remember asking for internet banking for the company account a few years ago and they just said something along the lines of 'not available for this account'. I wasn't able to find an English speaking employee at this particular branch and so it was difficult to make any headway and regrettably my Thai language isnt good enough yet to negotiate corporate banking facilities.

Does anyone have any experience with a bank that is 'straight forward' to obtain a business debit or credit card for a Thai business or are there any restrictions and/or requirements to meet?

Also I suppose a personal visa/mastercard debit or credit card would do in the meantime to test things out but it would need to be for my Thai personal bank account. Im with Kasikorn bank and im not sure if the debit card would work online or not? Any ideas?

I just signed up to Omise for a test account and it looks like you can register a live account as an individual or a business. Different documents are required to approve the account type.

Why using a company account when it is so easy to use a personal account.

Also, Thaiepay is a lot easier to set up a payment pateway, especially if you use a Thai name, no need to register any company, just as with Paypal !

I set up online payment for Thai who makes 100k+/month profit and they also never paid any tax.

As individual, are you sure ? In the past they didn't allow.

I am searching for facilities to support a legitimate business. Not for an individual.
