Police in Pursat province’s Bakan district are investigating a brutal sword attack on a 21-year-old man that left him with one leg after an argument with six youths turned violent. Sok Sophon was on the back of his friend’s motorbike when they got into an argument with six other men on three motorbikes in Boeung Khnar commune’s Krasaing Krou village on Monday night.

Mr Sophon and his friend threw rocks at the six men and then sped off, but the group of suspects caught them and began swinging swords at them, hitting Mr Sophon and causing him to fall off his friend’s bike. The suspects then proceeded to hack Mr Sophon’s left leg, leaving him severely injured and in need of amputation once police brought him to hospital.

Veng Sakhorn, deputy Bakan district police chief, said that the six had yet to be identified. “During the chase, the gangsters slashed the youth on the back of his friend’s motorbike many times, making him fall off,” he said. “His friend kept driving and escaped.”
