Army chief defends decommissioned Bt350-million surveillance airship

Featured Replies

If they wanted to carry out aerial surveillance, why the hell did they not buy a drone system?  It would have been less expensive and much more efficient and still in service.  Even I as a lowly ex-major in the British Army knows this, so why didn't a very high ranking General in the Thai Army, with all the advisers at his disposal not know?  Absolutely rediculous.  Someone should be hauled over the coals for this waste of public money.

the aircraft would be sold in an auction to be held by the Army Transport Department to benefit the Army

This I see as an oddity with the Thai military.

  • It's been reported that it owns hard assets (ie., natural resources, land, facilities).
  • Funds generated from those assets such as sale proceeds, lease and rents can go into the military accounts (sometimes characterized as "slush funds") and not back to the Thai Treasury General Account.
  • These "surplus" revenues do not seem to be used to offset increasing military Thai Treasury budget requirements as the military typically receives a 5% annual budget increase from the Treasury.

With the ability to accumulate and use funds for its own discretionary spending, only the military is accountable for its transparency.

Looks like they have found that dogs are better at finding bombs

And these same people now want to buy modern submarines.

Fills you with confidence, eh?

no one has explained why the sub's are being equipped with retractable wheels . what is their top speed on land and is it true they will be radar equipped for expressway speeders? so many question go unanswered .

Was it ever properly commissioned in the first place?

I remember it having all sorts of technical problems & then it must have gone into storage somewhere

He was indeed sent to prison for the fraud. They couldn't possibly work. Even though the doyen of Thai forensics and prominent scientist here claimed they were pukka and excellent. And some using them claimed good results. The reality was they weren't real and the fraud wasn't only swallowed by Thailand.

You are correct, however, they couldn't put it over on this guy.

Lol... I thought the article was going to be a "this day in history" article

It never really 'took off'

The same general that approved this airship that never see operation also approved the dud GT2000. Blatant evidences for malfeasance charge if he is not from the Eastern Tiger fraternity and ally to the current power.

every single day , be it the forces, the police or government come out in print to show the whole world how <deleted> stupid they are, its just to hilarious for words. KEEP YOUR GOBS SHUT , OK.  makes yerself look a lot better by keeping us who can read,, in the dark. lol
