Rimmer Posted September 15, 2017 Posted September 15, 2017 Dongtan Beach facelift expected to finish early PATTAYA:--The renovation of Dongtan Beach is proceeding faster than scheduled with contractors predicting an early finish. The Dongtan section of the 600-million-baht facelift of Jomtien Beach will see the road from the police box to the Rabbit Resort widened from five to seven meters wide, accompanied by a five-meter-wide footpath and 1,000 new trees. Construction has been split into two zones, both of which have remained open to sun lovers. The ground work in Zone A is complete and new drainage laid out. Zone B is nearly complete, with contractors working on the road and sidewalk. Completion of the Dongtan section is scheduled for January, but Nong Nooch Landscape & Design predicts the job will be finished sooner. Work has not been without its hiccups, as beach users complained loudly about contractors removing all the trees at the start of the project. johng Posted September 15, 2017 Posted September 15, 2017 They removed a lot of the big old growth trees that looked beautiful provided good shade and did an important job preventing erosion..and will replace them with 1000 scrawny palm trees ?
fforest1 Posted September 15, 2017 Posted September 15, 2017 They have a major hard on for Palm trees and only Palm trees...
Gunna Posted September 15, 2017 Posted September 15, 2017 Once they finish with Dongtan Beach they can return to the main Jomtien Beach which already needs repairs to the shoddy renovations done there. Just a few of the things that need to be done again The concrete footpath is chipped and flaking off. Most of the thousands of the small plants have died to to lack of water and Thais walking over them and throwing rubbish into them. The stainless steel/chrome plated railings are already rusting and were never properly secures to the concrete. The shambles of temporary wooden steps needs to be removed and replaced with permanent safe concrete steps. The new drainage doesn't work so that every time there is heavy rain it floods and scours out the sand on the beach.
soistalker Posted September 15, 2017 Posted September 15, 2017 They couldn't afford to do a good job? All I see working on the beach project are obviously unskilled workers.
The manic Posted September 15, 2017 Posted September 15, 2017 They could clean up the heaps of filthy rubbish on cozy beach...
harada Posted September 15, 2017 Posted September 15, 2017 I hope they remember to seal the joins in the pipes this time or as happened at Patong beach a few years back they will be digging it all up again after the first storm.

juice777 Posted September 17, 2017 Posted September 17, 2017 I walked down there yesterday a lot of the metal plates over the drain are all bending in. A accident waiting to happen. And what's the point of widening the road for only part of it. Sent from my SM-G900F using Tapatalk

juice777 Posted September 18, 2017 Posted September 18, 2017 Presumably they will widen the rest later when more money is available.Well that's what I thought. But this Thread says it's going to finish early. So if we are to believe this Thread they are not going to do that. Sent from my SM-G900F using Tapatalk
balo Posted September 18, 2017 Posted September 18, 2017 Its going to look like a disaster zone after 2 years.

Patrons have already told me they will not be coming back and so all you have actually achieved by widening the 'footpath' into an ugly 'scar' and constantly harassing the hard working Thai beach vendors to move 'a meter this way and a meter that way' is hasten the demise of tourism here. Your Council's actions are reminiscent of those who rearranged the deck chairs on the Titanic krub.
