I've recently arrived in Phuket and looking into setting up my company to get a work permit so I can work as a yoga teacher and acupuncturist out here. Despite being previously told there is a lot of 'casual' employment out here for people in my field, i'm getting a lot of feedback from places that they won't go near me unless I set up my own company and sort my permit out so I can work freelance. I'm really struggling to find anyone who can help or advise me on how to go about doing this. (I've had a couple of people in passing who have told me that it normally costs around 90,000 baht but been unable to give me any more info)

If anyone has general advice around this area, or could in particular let me know of any reputable firms in Phuket who I could contact I would be extremely appreciative. Cheers

You would certainly need a work permit. For acupuncture you would also need to be licensed to do it.

You would either need to set up a company or work for an existing one to get the work permit. There is no freelance work permit.

Also, understand that a work permit is normally tied to a specific location and a specific employer. There is a designated location you can work in. You can't just go work in premises owned by other businesses, and you can't go and freelance for other businesses.

In addition the company hiring you would have to specify why a Thai person could not be hired to do the job.

A lot of dive instructors do this.

Check out the law company next to Kamala Divecenter (Local Thai Diveteam) on Chaofa West in Chalong, just before the traffic lights coming from the circle on the left. She may be able to help you.

I understand dive instructors can have a large area of sea as their place of work due to their job description.

How do they deal with working for different employers?

They could work for one company and be contracted out to other companies or businesses.
