90 day notification.... 7 days later is ok?

Featured Replies

My 90 notification date was Sept 12. Am i correct in thinking I have 7 days grace,  which would mean I am ok to renew  it on sept 19, or will they do the procedure of counting the 12th and 19th, thus making it 8 days, and facing  a penalty?  Also,  do all immigration offices follow the same procedure?  In my case it will be Ubon.  Sorry if this has been answered before.

The rule is 15 days before and 7 days after.

18th Sept in my view.

+1. The report date (12th Sept) must be included.

It's within 7 days of the report date. The 18th is your last day.

Not in Chiang Mai anymore. Pay the fine of 2000 baht. This is now aa money maker for them.

Dont pay. Refuse and ask to speak to a higher officer. If still insisting pay only if you get an official receipt saying what the fine is for. Take that to the corruption commision.

It would be wise to ask the officer to put it on video the reason for the fine as it is in clear contradiction with the government Immigration site rules and print a copy for them.

This sounds good - but then one could never use that office for anything again.  Maybe there is a way to provide anonymous tips?  Otherwise, just forget that there is supposed to be a grace-period, if served by that office.

There is no way the CM immigration office have stopped allowing people to report within 7 days. The report isn't even due until midnight on day 90, which is why they give time to make the report.

My last check in nabbed two folks in front of me. 7 days were added along with the weekend and the holiday. So if in-fact it is 7days, then they are adding using their system. They can manipulate it how they want, and in actuality 7 days they do not have to give.

It seems they were late doing their report and had incorrectly assumed it did not include weekends and holidays. Everyday is counted in the 7 days including the report date.

They verbally protested up and down that it was of new occurrence and they did nothing different than that of the past. But, the immigration woman officer just puffed steam out her ears and wrote them both up. She is new from about 6 -9 mos ago as a transfer I think.. That particular day the officers had a stack of late and pay documents on the desk. Different officers different strokes? This day she was collecting them 2000 baht fines religiously.

Regardless of your perception of events, CM immigration has not changed their/the Immigration Bureau policy of allowing people to report within 7 days without a fine. It possible this IO was on the take, but it's more likely they were genuine late reports by people that don't know the rules.

For the 2 checking in were under perception that the Holiday (fell on Monday) was not to be counted, and the weekend as well as they are closed. It is impossible to check in on off work days. The clincher for them was the Holiday being counted which in actuality made them both late under their thinking. For that matter, I am always on time, and I do understand the immigration need to make money somewhere like the normal street police. Can't live on 6000 or even 10,000 baht a month. But in this instance I do think that the Holiday should not have been countered.
