We are planning to get married, and from the internet I read that there is a New Consular Legalisation Office at MBK Centre. Have any members made used of it during their marriage process?

Deputy Government Spokesperson Traisuree Taisaranakul disclosed that the Department of Consular Affairs, Ministry of Foreign Affairs is set to open a new Office of Legalization, which will be located next to its Pathum Wan Passport Office at 5th floor, MBK Center, Bangkok, from March 1, 2023 onward. The newly launched office will provide full legalization services to both Thais and foreigners in the inner Bangkok area.

With the opening of the new office in MBK Center, Legalization Office at MRT Khlong Toei will be permanently closed from February 25, 2023 onward. The last day of service provision and return of legalized documents at MRT Khlong Toei will be February 22 and 24 respectively. After February 24, the documents can be picked up at the new office in MBK.

I'm not seeing an option to edit - Maybe Mod can do. It's been relocated to the 6th Floor (Zone D) at CentralWorld on Ratchadamri Road

The MFA legalization is the easy part. It is getting the apostilles from home that are the problem. Still, a new office can help a bit. A friend had to fly to Germany twice for his.

I don't trust anything I get at MBK to be genuine. Probably a good thing if they moved it to one of the CentralWorld's.

There are numerous legalization divisions of the Dept of Consular Affairs throughout Thailand.

Main and Bangkok Metropolitan Offices

• Department of Consular Affairs (Main Office): 3rd Floor, 123 Chaeng Watthana Road, Lak Si District, Bangkok. Open Monday–Friday, 08:30–15:30

• Pathum Wan Office: 6th Floor, Zone D, Central World, Bangkok. Open Monday–Friday, 10:00–16:30.

Provincial and Regional Offices

• Chiang Mai: Central Chiang Mai Airport.

• Pattaya: 4th Floor, Central Pattaya.

• Ubon Ratchathani: 1st Floor, Ubon Ratchathani Provincial City Hall.

• Songkhla: 2/1-2/8 Laem Son On Road, Bo Yang, Mueang Songkhla.

• Phuket: Selected provincial passport facility.

Other than Phuket, which I believe is a walk in, you need to book an appointment.

You must book an appointment here https://qlegal.consular.go.th/customer/index choosing which office and download the barcode once accepted.

Never used that one. just the old MFA office. The Thai legalization is the easy part. the hard part is getting the stamps from the originating country.

What apostilles from the home Country ?

To get married in Thailand, you only need to provide evidence of being single, divorce or death certificate, which are public record and can be verified by the Embassy.

Now if you were married overseas and wanted to register the foreign marriage in Thailand, then yes, your foreign marriage certificate would first have to be authenticated, then legalised by the Thai Embassy in your home Country. The OP never suggested he is trying to register a foreign marriage.

Not true. Your divorce settlements need to be stamped as well. Who does the certification depends on where you are from. Not all embassies can certify your documents.

Which Embassies ?

Certainly not the German Embassy in Thailand you previously mentioned.

At a guess, your German friend married in Germany and was attempting to register that marriage in Thailand.

In which case his German marriage certificate would first have to be authenticated by the BMI, then legalised by the Thai Embassy in Berlin.

Getting married in Thailand, and registering a foreign marriage in Thailand are totally different procedures.
