I am curious about the above, the normal parameters are 5 - 40. I am generally up to 25 and a month off the beer will bring this down to 16/18.

I am wondering what level indicates the start of cirrhosis and what it could eventually rise to.

I have been a lifelong "social" drinker and I am surprised that my test levels are aways within the safe limits.

To clarify I am referring to the SGOT (AST) & SGPT(ALT) tests. Kidney function tests fall into a similar range.

SGOT (AST) & SGPT(ALT)  are not renal tests. They are tests of liver function.

By the time they are elevated in cirrhosis, significant liver damage would already have occurred.

An ultrasound may be more useful in catching early/initial signs of damage. Ultrasounds of upper abdomen are included in many check-up packages at Thai hospitals.
