Report, Hk Consulate

Featured Replies

Just arrived back from Thai consulate in Hong Kong. Background and info...

Arrived first week of October on 60 day tourist visa through new airport. Got a 30 day extension from Bangkok Immigration Department, which was up Jan 5th.

Left LOS to Hong Kong through Macau with Air Asia, as it was lots cheaper. Got to Thai Consulate at 8 am on Jan 3. (Information posted by someone on this site was wrong, Consulate was open Jan 3). Told by building staff that the consulate opens at 9 am. Returned one hour later and sat down. Aprox 6 people outside waiting when the Visa section opened at 9:30. Took number and gave all paperwork up (photocopy of entry stamp to HK and Passport Picture page, along with form off net, along with 200 HK dollars and passport) and left. Done and out by 9:35 am. Next day arrived and picked up passport within 5 minutes.

This was a back to back 60 day tourist visa issued, which was no problem, with being out of LOS for less than two days.

Overall very efficient, but only got what I went for, no more, no less.

Anyone requiring direct, specific information, please let me know, I would be happy to expand on how to get there/costs involved etc. should it help someone in same position.

Thanks to those who have been patient and helpful for me here on thaivisa, as it is appreciated by myself!

good report. I am curious if the consulate asked for any additional info like proof of airline tickets to exit the kingdom?

Where did you stay in Macau? very expensive?

good question..... when first one was issued, they asked for proof (obtained from USA) of return ticket (which obviously was not used). With that in mind I bought the cheapest ticket I could find ahead, to Sinapore with Air Asia, but I did not have to show them proof, they only asked for what was posted above, no more.

Technically, you don't need to stay in Macau, with the ferry you can go directly to Hong Kong and back for about 120 HK$ each way, with what looks like three flights BKK-Macau a day. Just come on the early one and leave on the late one two days later, needing one night stay somewhere close to consulate (ie Hong Kong, close to MRT/subway to get you in line early), and then leave for Macau. Ferry every hour.

But I did stay in Macau and it was expensive, Mandarin, one night. HK for three nights was a better value, more to do.

Money not the issue with me, needing to stay in Thailand is, so I just plan vacation now every three months, I guess. Singapore in 90 days etc...

in HK for vacation, i stayed in a very clean and decent hotel, with very convenient location (although in "red light" district), near MRT station, and that station so happens to be right smack in between Central station (business district) and Causeway Bay station (shopping district).

It's called the Wharney Hotel on Lockhart Road.

At that time i paid 65 USD for an "extra" night (outside of my package) which is very cheap by HK standards... but is quite expensive by Thailand standards.

On www.asiarooms.com, it's about 3,400 THB per night now.

HK hotels, however, can be very cheap if you get a 3 day 2 night package (including airfare)... but in thailand you can usually only get that if you're 2 people. HK hotels and budget packages usually don't include breakfast.

Hope it helps! :o
