The body of an eight-year-old boy, who was swept away with his mother by floodwaters when flash floods hit a tribal village in Mae Hong Son’s Mae La Noi district on Saturday night, was retrieved on Tuesday morning.

The body of Thanachoke Banpotdilok was found amid flood debris at the entrance to a cemetery at Ban Mae Tob Tai at 11.35am.

Relatives had postponed the cremation scheduled for 1pm on Tuesday of his mother, 54-year-old Suda Banpotdilok, whose body was retrieved on Monday, so that both the mother and son could be cremated together.

The mother and son were reported missing on Sunday morning following flash floods that also damaged two houses and a car.
