September 29, 20178 yr Vitara 16V 1999 I need a full overhaul........air turning itself on and off mostly off.......was told long ago my compressor or something was only working at 70%. that should be fixed too. I wanted to give it to Joe at Denso in CR who speaks perfect English and was helpful and fair priced, but need to do it sooner in CM. I'd like someone like Joe in CM who I can communicate with and trust. I use Ton at ProAuto for regular work but presume this is better with a specialist. As I use the car constantly downtime is v important . ps any hints as to the turning off and on would be appreciated. Could be a thermostat or just low fluid (not touched for years) Thanks
October 5, 20178 yr Just take it to B-Quik and see what they say. They have a guy who deals with A/C but for sure no English..So take a Thai with you..
October 5, 20178 yr Turn on for a few sec then shut off, and repeat this pattern? Had similar symptons, in my case its just I overcharged R134a a little, thus the compressor disengages itself as over-pressure protection. Resolved by located High Pressure Schrader valve infront of AC radiator( I mean condenser, equipped with glass & gloves of course ), push & bleed a tiny bit R134a( too much into atmosphere will be illegal ), restoring AC system to proper working pressure( a cheap R134a refill gauge could do the pressure check ), and voila now the cabin is freezing cold :-D Anyway, before your AC being checked, running AC is NOT recommended... if it's in fact a overpressure situation, you risk damaging the compressor which might cost a little fortune.
October 5, 20178 yr To be precise, my AC system have fully vacuum evacuated & properly oiled & no air/water trapped whatever, which might not be OP's case so my experience might not apply. If a proper AC system is low on refrigerant, it either not come on at all, or cabin is wet of moisture because water condensation at evaporator grills.
