Trang hit by flash floods following six hours of downpours

By The Nation

Hundreds of houses, several roads and temples in Trang’s four districts were hit by flash floods late on Friday night following over six hours of heavy downpours.

The water levels of floods in the four districts of Mueang, Kantang, Palian and Yan Ta Khao ranged from 20 centimetres to 1.5 metres high.

With insufficient time to move their belongings upstairs, the late-night flash flooding damaged many people’s property. Many moved to stay on their second floor, while others first took refuge in temples for the night and sought help from municipalities to set up tents on higher ground near their homes so that they could watch over them.

Main roads were impassable in multiple sections due to deep water, prompting vehicles to use bypasses and resulting in traffic congestion on Saturday morning.

The flooded areas included Nong Yuan community in Mueang district with water levels from 20cm to one metre, and affecting some 200 families.

The area behind Tipparat School in Tambon Na Taluang in Mueang district saw a flood of 1 metre to 1.5 metres deep inundating roads and houses.

The Ploen Phithak road in Mueang district was under water from 30 to 50 centimetres. The flood also hit Wat Kutiyaram on the Ploen Phithak road, prompting monks to move things upstairs.
