In your opinion and based on what has been printed, do you believe that Yingluck should be granted political asylum based on a well founded fear of persecution.   Political asylum is usually not given for simply fleeing prosecution, but can be given if the prosecution is for political beliefs.

Where is the 3rd option; "who cares"?

She should get extradicted to Thailand and go to jail.

Brave woman who, for a political novice, excelled. Thailand will be much less for losing her.

Yes, she should be granted political asylum.

Unfortunately, Forum rules prevent me from properly explaining why I believe that to be the case.

Says it all, doesn't it?

Of course she's persecuted. This is s power struggle between two factions and right now the old elite has the upper hand and is calling the shots. Does anyone really believe that the junta is actually trying to root out corruption and implement meaningful reforms??

Well then;

Thailand dies not make it easy for foriengers to stay here long time. We have to jump through hoops and rings. So uk should deport her back to thailand. They say thailand lost millions on the rice pledge so cos she was prime minister she should not get left off. Indeed she will not serve 5 years for good behavour.

she is a convicted criminal in exile ....   what do you reckon  ?

get a discount & buy two seats to bring her back and the brother.

Don't really give a rat's ass about her, but big bro "phi chai" Toxin should never have been. Asylum should be revoked and he should be hunted down, dragged back and locked away for a good long time. Corrupt, arrogant scum. :coffee1:

She has been tried & convicted in a Junta overthrown Kangaroo court.

This survey is basically a  invalid question

Yes she is being persecuted but she is also guilty.

Excelled, like a ventriloquist dummy, the reason she is now a fugitive of justice?

So, in this case, should we say that whoever was prime minister of x country when the world financial collapse occurred should be prosecuted for losing money for that particular country? If every prime minister was prosecuted for bad financial decisions the job would be redundant.

There’s something incongruous about a thief being condemned by other thieves.

She doesn't need to ask for asylum, she's from a very wealthy family, so will be welcomed into the UK anyway.

Did you really bother to understand what she was charged with?

yes I do

Under no circumstances should any member of the corrupt, ruthlessly power hungry(of a kind that simply will do anything to acquire power/money and can't let go of it ) Shinawatra clan be given asylum , certainly not for political reasons, as they do not -similar to Trump-advocate any political views, whatever stance they adopt is only a means to an end:to amass as much power and wealth as they possible can.A repulsive lot.

Yes , Yingluck should be given political Asylum .  It is not precisely a case of persecution , but she is a former prime minister , that the military junta want to punish and make an example of .

Doubt that, seeing as it wasn't money related.

Really  ...the court ruled for Apichart and his rice trading firm, namely Siam Indica Co., to give the Ministry of Finance a sum of 497 million U.S. dollars in compensation to pay for the state losses in the rigged rice deals.

Your personal opinion about the shinawatra family not withstanding, I m thinking this is more about the fairness of the proceedings, whereby her "enemies" presided over her prosecution (persecution), even refusing to allow her to enter evidence in her defense.

The Thai judicial system is seriously flawed (IMHO), and whilst it remains thus, yingluks personal accountability cannot be truly gauged, making the whole shambles a crock of sh**.

this all smacks of feudalism, whereby the new ruler executes the old, and all of his/her family.... ergo she should be granted asylum, at least until transparent fairness and impartiality can be guaranteed.... which will be a long time in the distant future, according to my almanac.

As I have said before in this case, I think it was political motivation that led to the arrest of the ex pm.

Or even gross incompetence as the PM.

yeah i think that's probably about it seeing as she only got a sentence of five years as opposed to 30 and 40 year plus sentences for other defendants in the case.

All depends on how much money shes got

Yes absolutely, she should be given political asylum.

How can anyone believe anything this current lot say or do! The Red Bull heir has miraculously slipped through their fingers ....as has no doubt a lot of baht to enable his 'escape'

Political asylum? Why? Like her brother (and family) she has no politics, only business. She's a convicted criminal who should be extradited to appeal or serve her sentence, but probably won't. The British smile on rich criminals.

OP edited out. No need to quote the OP.

She was born and raised in the Thai system; She accepted the Thai system and got her fortune by using the Thai system; She should accept the judgement of the Thai system...but then again, she has probably never read Plato's work about Socrates, Ha!
