The number of people visiting the Dusit Maha Prasart Throne Hall in the Grand Palace to view the Royal Urn reached a record 90,300 on Sunday, four days ahead of the final day for public visits.

Thursday (October 5) is the last day that citizens can pay their respects before the urn of His Majesty the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej.

With so many people queuing to pay homage, it took until 3.30am on Monday for the final few to be admitted.

The Royal Household Bureau reported that 11,654,402 mourners had visited the throne hall in the past 333 days and donations received as a form of making merit for the late King totalled Bt864,912,194.

The beloved King Rama IX died last October 13. His funeral is scheduled for October 25-29, with the cremation set for October 26.

The previous records for throne hall visits were set on September 26, when 73,889 mourners viewed the Royal Urn, and December 30, when there were 73,614 visitors.
