LM daeng lek 72 baht now 60 baht

Featured Replies

Some smart Alec suggested the price of tobacco and other taxable goods may come down as a means of avoiding the new taxes placed on such products.

Today I purchased 1 box of Lm daeng lek for 60 baht. Price previously was 72 baht.

For the unknowing: daeng = red, lek = small

My local shop kept Krong Thip at 86 bht till I not know when as never know when she shuts or opens so I bought a carton from another outlet & they were 95 bht per pack (10) & he mentioned that was from 10 days ago = double the price in 9 yrs

But one good thing was that he said the beer (Leo small can ) has not gone up , he remains at 35 bht p/can so is still making a 114 bht profit from the price in Tesco (726 bht per 24 ctn )

Where as my locals can price is 38 bht from the start (not know if she will put them up )

I came into General to start a thread on this very subject.

The other day I went into 7/11 and they did exactly the same, charged me 60 baht a packet. I had bought 4 packets (240 baht) and I questioned the girl in case she had made a mistake as the normal price (after the tax hike) for 4 packets would have been 288 baht and I didn't want that coming out of her pocket if she had messed up.

But no, all was good! For additional info, our local Tesco Express is still charging 72 baht a packet, but freely told that 7/11 were charging 60.

Dropping to price of product to avoid manufacturer's tax was something I hadn't expected, hadn't heard that before.
