Thailand Work Permits Now Available Through Phone App

 

The app, Thailand Digital Work Permit, was introduced to companies and foreign employees on Friday.

 

BANGKOK – Thailand’s Labour Ministry and the Immigration Bureau have launched the first smartphone app on  allowing expats to lodge requests for work permits and have them approved, though applicants will still need to make at least two “offline” trips to specially set up centres to complete the procedure.

 

The app, Thailand Digital Work Permit, was introduced to companies and foreign employees on Friday.

 

The first person to be digitally granted a work permit was Japan’s Koichiro Suda. The permit was approved by Waranon Pitiwan, director-general of the Department of Employment (DOE).

 

Mr Suda works as a domestic sales coordinator for Minebea Thailand Co Ltd, one of the firms supported by the Office of the Board of Investment (BoI).

 

The app resulted from a project jointly launched by the BoI, the Labour Ministry and the Immigration Bureau called Single Window.

What the article doesn't tell you is that the app is only for those people who are employed by BOI companies.

 

Or in other words, it's completely useless to most people.

No, thank you. I'll stick to the old-fashioned manual procedure, because it only requires ONE "offline" trip for me.

They have already lost the race in technology facilitation services.

It would seem that renewals of existing work permits could be easy if renewed on line .

 

The multiplicity of documents (paper) would be eliminated and the cost the agent  or book keeper charges to do it could be eliminated.

 

i have been told that my W.P. records can not be found (original 1993) I have scans of the old one and the one falling apart has been stapled to my "new book" I was told not to loose the old one as there are no records about my previous W.P.'s.

 

If i had to start over I would have have a very hard time producing documentation needed as it has also gone by the way of age and time, many records are not available anymore.

 

I use to do my own W.P. when in Bangkok, easy and painless, now done by my book keeper, costly when I should be able to do it my self like I uses to do.

 

It looks like government employees have found a way to justify being on their phones at work. This will be a great way to keep up with their Facebook as well. Pure genius Thailand.

90-day reporting would be more useful. It's supposed to work on the web but doesn't.

Great news for the handful working in Phuket. Phuket is not a BoI promotion zone though. Getting a BoI sponsored WP was always very easy.

 

 

With the reputation of online applications sent to the Thai authorities I smell trouble. Lots of it!

Yes, sad but true. For all the brave talk in the last twenty-five years of technology hubs in Thailand, the standard of online, customer-friendly service is dismal, and this is particularly true of government offices and state enterprises. Thai language websites are bad enough in design and user-friendliness, but English language ones, where they exist or partially-exist at all, are appalling. And that is before talking of the ability of anyone on the receiving end to actually do their job.

The work permit is in itself a complete wast of time and money. I had one for several years, and as part of the application I was forced to sign a document saying that I was making 80,000 Bht per month. This I was taxed on, to the tune of over 20,000 Bht per month, even though most months I was barely breaking even. If there is any avenue open to you to do your thing without obtaining a work permit, take it !!

Wonder if it will be as successful as the on line 90 day reporting that does not work 90% of the time

There is no minimum salary required to obtain a work permit. A minimum salary is required by immigration for a 1 year extension of stay. For most "western" countries this is 50,000 baht a month.

 

You would only need to declare 80,000 baht a month if you were considering applying for PR.

Try getting the 90 day report fixed first.  Lol

A few years ago the tax on an 80k salary would have been about 6k a month plus the 750 social insurance - not sure what happened to the rest of your contribution.

Agreed.  Its like the Elite 90 day report service.  All you have to do is bring them you passport and pick it up the next day.  I would rather make one trip to immigration.  You know what they say "Common sense ain't common".

it does, 
as long as the Nationality is picked from the drop-down menu.
in my case about  2 working days to receive the document. (repeated a few times already)
