With their pig farms under water from heavy rains, farmers in Phichit have been forced to relocate their pigs to dry road-tops.

More than 70 pigs were relocated to higher ground on the road, as the Yom River overflowed and flooded the pig farms in Phichit’s Sam Ngam District. Affected farmers said the temporary relocation causes difficulties in caring for their animals, because the road is not suitable for raising pigs.

According to reports, many areas in Sam Ngam District were inundated under floodwaters as high as 50 centimetres, forcing local farmers have to move their pigs to the high ground.

Flooded pig farm owner Phichet Namprasert had to move his pigs to the road, where authorities had created an area for the animals.

The road surface is not suitable for keeping pigs, causing difficulties for farmers, said Phichet.
