Typhoon Khanun has weakened to tropical storm with its centre now at 390 kilometres east of Hanoi, the Meteorological Department said on Monday morning (Oct 16).

In its forecast issued at  5.00am today, Khanun has weakened from typhoon to tropical storm with wind speed of 111 kilometres an hour  in its centre and is moving west at the speed of 15 kilometres an hour. The storm with heavy rainfall and gusty winds is now on its path to Hainan Island and Gulf of Tonkin on Monday.

It will weaken to depression and low pressure trough and change course of South China and northern Vietnam to central Vietnam as the result of the arrival of  the high pressure from China moving into Vietnam and northern Laos. The storm will have no direct impact on Thailand, it said.

Morons.

Better start filling sandbags now.

Hmm, confidence. Having just experienced the edge of hurricane Ophelia, even though Ireland was over 200 miles away, I would say that is highly optimistic, parts of Thailand are only 100 miles from central Vietnam ........

Not sure they understand its not the wind that will cause damage in Thailand but the rain.

True, rained nearly all day tuesday in Udon, but not heavy. But any rain in Isaan will just make the rivers downstream flood again.
