Commerce to check prices of vegetables, fruits and vegetarian food to prevent overcharging

Commerce inspectors will be out on the streets and markets to check the prices of vegetables, fruits and vegetarian food in Bangkok and upcountry provinces to make sure that the goods are not overpriced by traders during the vegetarian festival from Oct 20-28.

 

Internal Trade Department director-general Boonyarith Kalyanamitr said Monday said the inspection would focus on vegetables, fruits and other raw materials used to produce vegetarian food to prevent traders from taking advantage on consumers by jacking up the prices arbitrarily or overcharging ready-made vegetarian food.

 

In Bangkok, the inspectors will be split up in nine teams which will spread out to do their job in 50 districts during October 17-19, he said, adding that, in the provinces, provincial commerce officials will also make random checks during the same period.

Enforcement against overcharging cheats should be on a yearly basis and not just during a festival.

 

Furthermore, I would have more trust towards a seller who clearly displays his prices.............and flee those sly ones who don't display prices and adapt the cost, depending on the appereance or race of the customer.

It has been a couple months since they have tried to muck up basic economic supply and demand

Wish I could take one of these inspectors with me when I go to buy flowers on Valentine's Day, Mothers' Day, wedding anniversary etc. Talk about the golden fleece. . .
