By the way, the DIY river level indicator is here 14.054875, 100.551559

Do you know the elevation above median sea-level at that point?

According to http://www.altitude.nu/ 3.96m at the entrance to the khlong from the river, our garden tags as 5.81m

No idea how accurate or how it works.

https://www.daftlogic.com/sandbox-google-maps-find-altitude.htm gives similar results probably the same source (Google Maps?)

Thank you Crossy and others for all the information given here. Far more useful then that of the government.

We echo your overnight drop, long may it continue. But with the reports of flash flooding up-north again ...

Well that was a brief respite, I hope someone has their hand on the throttle upriver.

It seems that someone was on the throttle, the level has stabilised at my -30cm marker, for now at least.

As long as not too much rain falls then they don't have to open up the dams (to prevent problems there). Lets hope for more dry weather.

Level Update.

For some reason I can't post images from my phone whilst in the office, anyway, the level as of 5.45 this morning is -470cm from my "zero" mark.

EDIT Via a somewhat convoluted route

"I don't want to know why you can't. I want to know how you can!"

clearance is increasing here also, I'm quite a bit downstream of you

wonder what the speed of the river is now,

Pooh Sticks anyone?

And the latest up to the minute level report. Someone is doing a fair job of keeping the river (mostly) within the banks. Or maybe it's like an old Cessna, it will sort itself out if the pilot stops interfering with it.

Weather definitely changed up here in Udon, been dry & cooled off for about ten days now, hopefully will give them breathing space to control the output from dams! No rain forecast so hopefully......

not quite sure what is going on,

water is up 10-15 centimeter since morning

guess I'm about 4-6 hours downstream of you

(this morning was pretty good, managed to get into my boat for first time in some days,

very tricky with very high water)

mai pen rai,

have backpack packed with valuables and important papers

can piss off on short notice

Yeah, that's what we saw when I posted that latest level, just waiting for it to get light so I can take another reading.

Stay dry (ish).

"I don't want to know why you can't. I want to know how you can!"

Latest level, if it stays in this range we and hopefully @melvinmelvin will be OK. Worry is the "rumour" that the dams upriver will be increasing their discharge rate. Watch this space.

"I don't want to know why you can't. I want to know how you can!"

increased discharge is not on the list of what I need,

that goes for heavy rain and southernly gales also

Windy.com has the winds generally from the north for the next week or so and the predicted storm in the gulf should track west.

yes, I have seen that

and that should mean that the elevation gradient Ayudaya -- Sea should increase, good news, the river would flow faster

(might cause havock for those in the Mae Nam Mae Klong basin though,

 Amphawa and thereabouts,

but as we say in my mother lingo, one man's death is another man's bread)

Is the water going down at your place?

It isn't here, same as yesterday morning, not good considering

no rain for quite a while now and fairly high temperatures that steam

off water. And considering the tidal high water is going down.

Suspect there are some increases in dam-output somewhere upstream.

Not really, minimum mid morning was -57.5cm from my zero datum, pretty much the same as yesterday, on the way back up again now.

The authorities say no increase in dam releases, but they could be releasing from the Ayutthaya retention area, no information on what's going on up there.

Update before it gets dark.

I will be checking again before going to bed, I will post again if anything scary is going on.

this morning; same same - no change    not down / not up

Yup, similar levels to yesterday, seems to be cycling between -35cm and -50cm on my arbitrary scale. This we can cope with if there are no increases in flow from upstream. I wonder how long it will take to return to normal levels.

"I don't want to know why you can't. I want to know how you can!"

to me, from the photos you post, it looks as if the level has clearly gone down

I have 45 cm to go before it gets critical, up/down over night only 3-4 centimeters,

with +45 cm I will have waves from passing boats rolling over the floors

I reckon you are about 4-6 hours upstream of me,

strange that there should be such differences

I wonder how much exaggeration of the level changes happens because we are at the end of the broader section at Sam Khok, the river goes from 600m at it's widest down to 250m, it's about 400m at the entrance to our khlong, fluid dynamics was never my strong subject.

The absolute levels are very similar to yesterday with a range of 15-20cm.

Melvin and Crossy, was your area flooded in the 2011 flood?

Yes, current levels for us are around 1m down on the 2011 peak.

2011 - note the tide-mark and the "normal" river level.

2011 offered water level + 1.5 meter compared with today's level

in 2011 the water was up to about 1+ meter above the floors

add info

No real action to report today, level dipped to nearly -60cm mid-morning but it's back up to -35cm again now. Hopefully a generally downwards trend.

I can't see any real correlation with the tide times, such is life.

i see, heroes for doing their jobs, the jobs we pay for; well, i suppose , in thailand, those Are heroes

same here Crossy, no progress really, water has been at the same level for the past 3 days,

and no correlation with the tides in the Gulf

the fluctuation here is only about 5 cm over a 24 hour period
