PHUKET: The problematic and long-awaited Chalong Underpass is of today just at 25% in construction, and it is expected to take “another year and a half” to complete, Highways Department project manager Somkiet Yimpong has confirmed to The Phuket News.

“The construction process continues and is now at 25%,” Mr Somkiet said today (Oct 24).

“Construction works occurring currently include permanent road diversion, excavation, electrical cables, moving power poles and plumbing,” he said.

If gambling were legal I'd open a book on the estimated completion date.

I reckon, given the abysmal performance record of the company in charge of this project, I'd double the estimated timescale and go for October 2020.

What is this guy smoking ... 25 % complete. More like 5 %  in my opinion. Another year and a half .... for sure and add another couple of years to cover your ass.

Really surprised he did't list more excuses.

We are still struggling to move some things out of the way, electrical poles, trees and so on.

The land expropriation issues that were holding the project up have been resolved on the most part, but there are some overlaps still being figured out,” he explained.

Have they even started digging a hole?

25% - rubbish!

Over two years into "construction" and less than 25% done, yet in Thai math, it will only be another year and a half to complete? Brilliant! As others have said, I'll take the overs! I still don't understand why they started without the land titles in order and moved the power and sewer lines before blocking up the whole area in the middle that they aren't working on. Ah, that would take planning and logic, which seems in short supply in the Phuket government's repertoire!
