Thailand on track for record year for exports

By The Nation

If Thailand can export goods worth about US$19.06 billion (Bt632.29 billion) monthly during the current quarter, overall export value this year will rise to a record high of around $232.618 billion, International Trade Promotion Department director-general Chantira Jimreivat Vivatrat said on Tuesday.

The current yearly record is $229.084 billion, which was achieved in 2012.

Export value during the first nine months of this year stood at $175.435 billion.

Export growth is expected to continue during the final three months of the year, thanks to economic recovery among the Kingdom’s trading partners and a greater number of incoming orders, she said.

Chantira added that during the remainder of the year, the department would invite around 200 domestic and international rice traders to hold talks with 219 Thai rice exporters.

The department hopes to see immediate orders of Bt586 million arising from these discussions, and continued orders of Bt30 billion.

I guess it takes time to locate new suppliers, negotiate deals and future commitments with alternative countries due to Baht related price increases in Thailand.

Next years figures will be interesting.

Increased value due partially to a periodic strong baht, by early 2018 the market should adjust and exports will be down in quantity and value.

So Thailand has finally recovered the set back of exports caused almost five years ago by the Suthep/Abhisit/PRDC government disruption and military coup. Perhaps up to a trillion baht in lost export value not to mention the almost half trillion baht of additional debt.

Congratulations Prayut.

Fortunately Prayut and his cohorts have immunity for any financial accountability.

Economy in Thailand...
- Barbers started selling bicycles outside the barbershop as their income was insufficient.

- Laundry shops started selling fresh coconut juice outside the laundry shop as their income was insufficient.

- Massage salons started selling fried chicken and sticky rice outside the massage salon as their income was insufficient.

- Pharmacy started selling fruit from the land of relatives (Isan) outside the pharmacy as their income was insufficient.

- Motorcycle repair shop started selling selling eggs outside the motorcycle repair shop as their income was insufficient.

- Restaurants started selling t-shirts, underwear and socks outside the restaurant as their income was insufficient.

- The lady of the local noodle shop started selling children's toys, presents and candy (lollies) next to her stall as her income was insufficient.

- 7 Eleven started renting out the pavement in front of the entrance to several traders, currently having a somtam stall, roti stall, bbq-ed pork stall.

Just an example of the local economy grow in a Din Daeng soi next to my high rise condo .

Thai govenment sees it as an increase of economy. I see it as an increase of poverty !!!

Thai economy is inversely proportional to the rest of the world... Planet Thailand !!!
