My 2nd Non-O visa runs out on the 2nd of April which is right in the middle of a 2 month holiday to visit family in England.

 

I want to stay in Thailand for another year ( my 3rd ) with my wife and 2 girls but won`t be here to renew it and I am not sure how I can get around it, confused.

 

If I did it early I wont have a passport as Immigration send it off for a month so cant go to the UK.

 

Maybe I should just go to the UK and re-apply when I get there, then I will not need to show funds in my Thai bank if I am correct, but will then need to do 3 month visa runs on my return like the 1st time I received my Non-O, but my visa will be processed there and be ready for my return.

 

If they, in the UK, turn me down for any unknown reason, never had a problem so far, it would be devastating for us.

Sounds like you currently have a 1 year extension of stay based on marriage, issued by immigration in Thailand, that expires in April when you're out of the country...

 

• If you are unable to renew the extension you can easily get a new Non 'O' visa whilst in the UK. You don't need to provide any financial info to apply for the visa.
• You could get a multiple-entry 'O' visa and leave/re-enter the country every 90 days, or get a single-entry 'O' visa and apply for a new 1 year extension of stay once you're back in Thailand. You would apply for the 1 year extension within the last 30 days of the 90 day entry. Financial info is needed for an extension of stay.
• Alternatively you could get a multiple-entry 'O' visa, which is valid for 1 year, and leave/re-enter the country every 90 days, and at some point in the future apply for a 1 year extension within the last 30 days of any of the 90 day entries.

 

There is little to no chance of you being turned down for a visa as long as you can provide a copy of your marriage certificate and wife's ID/passport.

Oh sorry, how long does it take to apply in the UK and can I set a specific date of return to Thailand so I dont lose days if mis-timed, I have totally forgotten from applying for my 1st one, must be the heat frazzling my brain.

 

Multu entry visa's have to be done in London either in person, collect next day, or by post about a week turn around.

I was under the impression that they cannot take your passport away for a month, a farang MUST carry passport at all times.

you won't lose any days as the visa is activated once you enter thailand

 

if i was you and this is just me. as soon as you get back to uk, unless you live in london, just post off on your first day. i did one last year on a monday and had it back the following monday. photo copy of marriage cert and her id card. no financials for either single or multi. i find the multi to be decent and wish i knew about it before this year which was my first one(got from savannaket) was always on extensions of some sort before that. if you travel around quite a bit then it works out better than messing around at immo which i just got fed up with. when i do come up to the 3 month and haven't left the country which hasn't happened yet and won't anytime soon as going away for xmas, i'll use that as an excuse to have a few days away from the mrs somewhere with some mates ; )

In the case of the USA-Embassy, they give you a letter to carry saying, essentially, "we have his passport."   I also made sure to have a clean color-copy of my old one, plus all relevant stamps, before I handed my passport over to them.  Note, this is only necessary if you want your new passport (and old one) mailed back to you - saving a 2nd trip to Bangkok to pick them up.

My marriage extension expires on dec 8th & i am currently in the uk , i have a multi entry so rentry is no problem but do i need to get a flight with a return or can i book a 1 way flight , i will be travelling to thailand around middle of nov & plan to renew my extension once i get back

Return ticket is only asked for when travelling without a visa.

You do now have to supply financial information when applying for a non immigrant type 'O' Visa from the Thai Embassy in London.

There has also been a recent thread where financial information is now required at the Swiss and Canadian Embassies.

I suspect this could well become the norm for a non O visa application and close the loophole where people have been getting a new non O every year (can actually be every 17 months) to stay in Thailand permanently without having to prove income/sufficient funds it the way those of us on an extension have to do every year.

No you don't. Nothing has changed at the London Thai embassy.

 

The London embassy website has listed that financial requirement for years, but it is not enforced. Many people, including myself, have applied for ME Non 'O' visas from London without providing any bank statements. You just need copies of the marriage certificate and ID.

That incorrect info has been on the embassy website for years. Convert the amount to baht and you will find it is about 65k baht which is for retirement.

There have been many reports of people getting multiple entry non-o visas based upon marriage with showing any financial proof.

I haven't checked personally but I was having a conversation with a mate of mine just a week or so ago. He'd recently contacted the Embassy for clarity and was told he now does have to provide financial info.

He was asking about a multi entry non O and initially they'd tried to advise him to apply for an O-A type visa until he insisted he wanted a non O based on marriage to a Thai.

 

Maybe there's somebody else on here who's checked with the Embassy in the last week or two and can clarify.

They could impose a financial condition anytime they wanted, but there have been no reports that they have, and the financial requirement on the website is not new. Your friend must have special powers if he made contact with the London embassy because, in my experience, they don't answer the phone and rarely reply to emails.

This is very true and not much use when you are there and ask them in person either.

I went back to the UK in July and my extension run out while I was there. I just applied to the embassy by post for a single entry Non Imm  visa to return to Thailand. It cost about £67 in total when you add in the postal order charge and return postage. You must use Royal Mail special delivery and it was back in 3 days. Shortly before the 90 days you will get on return runs out you can go to immigration and get a 12 month extension.

Word of warning. There is nothing on the visa application regarding visa category so I would suggest that you write on "Non Immigrant O". I just sent them a copy of marriage certificate and wife ID and they issued a Non Imm B which later became a problem.

Hi guys just as an update i have just recieved back my o visa in my passport from london by mail , sent my marriage cert, copy of wifes id card, daughters birth cert and recieved back in 4 days 1 yr o visa , no questions about funds

Non-Immigrant Type O- A (Long Stay) 1 Year per entries/Multiple entries/ 1 year validity 

 

• Two (2) sets of application forms and 2 recent photos.
• An additional application form for O-A
• Bank statement or evidence of adequate finance showing a deposit of the amount equal to and not less than 800,000 Baht or an income certificate with monthly income of not less than 65,000 Baht, (approximately £18,000.00 / annum) or a deposit account plus a monthly income totalling not less than 800,000 Baht. If you send a copy of bank statement, the original reference letter from the banking concerned is necessary.
• Certificate of criminal record clearance from own country and country of permanent residence with validity of at least 3 months. Applicants residing in the United Kingdom will need to have a police clearance issued only from here.
• Medical Record proving applicant has never been infected with contagious disease with validity at least 3 months (in accordance with Immigration Act B.E.2522)
• If you wish to be accompanied by spouse, the marriage certificate will be attached. But your spouse will be granted Non-Immigrant “O” instead of “O-A”(Long Stay)

Note: 

- Please submit the originals of bank statement, criminal record check, and medical record, as well as one photocopy of each document. In case that an applicant could not submit the original documents, the Embassy will accept the photocopies which have been certified by a Notary Public officer or Solicitors.

As you don’t meet the criteria for the “O-A” visa, your best bet is to return on a 30 day exempt entry then go to Savannaket for a multiple-entry Non-Imm ‘O’ based on marriage.

Yes. You do not need to show any financials to apply for a Non ‘O’.

 

You are quoting the requirements for a Non ‘O-A’. 

The thai consulate in Vancouver BC has started asking for financial information for a Non-O multi entry: (but the thai embassy in Ottawa and the consulate in Toronto do not!!)

 

 

6. For the purpose of visiting family in Thailand or visiting as a spouse of a Thai national:

• The applicant must present a valid and effective marriage certificate and a copy of the spouse’s Thai Passport or Thai National I.D. card.Fiancés are not included in this category.
• To visit as the relative of a Thai national, the applicant must show documents proving such a relationship.
• For multiple entry: required document to proof monthly income minimum 40,000 Baht (for last two month) or Bank balance 400,000 Baht

When you look at the non-o based upon marriage it states financial proof which is  an error. They do not ask for it when your apply.
