A medical doctor who led protesters in the illegal occupation of the Energy Ministry’s premise in 2014 was given an eight-month suspended jailterm by the Criminal Court on Tuesday (Oct 31).

The Criminal Court dismissed the claim by Dr Ravee Matchamadol, a core leader of the so-called People’s Army and Thai Energy Reform Network, that he was not a core leader of the protesters, but merely a coordinator, citing pictorial evidence showing him addressing the protesters at the Energy Ministry and negotiating with authorities on behalf of the protesters.

The protest was a part of the prolonged rally against the Yingluck Shinawatra government.
