Police Reform Committee meeting to resolve dispute on proposed reform details

 

BANGKOK, 2nd November 2017 (NNT) - The government-appointed committee in charge of police reform will hold a meeting next week to resolve a dispute related to the reform plan. 

Chairman of the National Reform Committee on the reform of the justice system (police) Gen. Boonsang Niampradit, said on Wednesday that the committee has completed around 90 percent of the overhaul plan and conclusions have already been drawn on various areas, such as the administrative operation, the nomination process for a national police chief and the annual transfer process for police officers. 

Gen. Boonsang noted that one impending issue is the effective establishment of a balance of power between investigators and prosecutors; the subcommittee on law enforcement and criminal procedures has been assigned to conduct more studies before reporting back to the main committee on November 6. 

Meanwhile, chairman of the legal reform committee Borwornsak Uwanno, has disclosed that his committee has come up with a draft of a reform plan covering nine chosen areas, including a review of outdated laws by all ministries to ensure Thailand’s legal system is effective and efficient in serving the public.

That won't happen. Certainly not the case currently or anytime in the past.
A corrupt system and likely to remain so for the foreseeable future.
Reform would need to start right from the top. This piecemeal approach with the cops is window dressing, as usual.

I guessing the wording 'come up with a draft of a reform' will actually turn out to be 'come up with daft reform'

Except when the military decides to bypass that legal system to try civilians in military court - a court that provides for NO appeal. Reform failure.
