Public warned against three risks during Loy Krathong

BANGKOK, 3 November 2017 (NNT) - The Department of Disease Control (DDC) has warned the public of risks of drowning, road accidents, and being injured from igniting fireworks and firecrackers during the Loy Krathong festival, which falls on Friday (November 3rd) this year.

The DDC Director General, Suwannachai Watthanayingcharoenchai, said statistics revealed that the rate of child deaths by drowning was strikingly high from the past 10 years between 2007 and 2016. The rate was twice as high for children aged between five and nine years old.

During the Loy Krathong festival, parents and guardians are advised to keep children well away from waterways and ponds and in their sight at all times. They should not let their children collect coins in the decorated baskets (krathong).

The department has also warned motorists to drive safely. In addition, people should not ignite fireworks and firecrackers near inflammable objects or houses. They should be kept away from sunlight and should not be kept in pockets. Adults should not leave their children alone with these explosive materials.

the fourth risk

is being arrested for having fun

"...warned the public of risks of drowning, road accidents, and being injured from igniting fireworks and firecrackers during the Loy Krathong festival..."

As if for the rest of the year these are not safety issues and no one is a victim of drowning, road crashes or irresponsible use of anything that is inflammable and explosive.

Perhaps setting up safety programs in schools, year round, would be more effective. First lesson... Observe how your parents and other adults function in these situations. Please realize they are idiots and do not try to act like them.

The Department of Disease Control has warned the public

Is it to be assumed that road accidents, drownings and injuries from fireworks are now classified as diseases?

Seriously this is an example of the nanny Department publicly preaching to the people just to cover their bureaucratic asses just so at the end of the day they can say "we did our job and warned the people, so don't blame us for any accidents". They certainly don't want the Big Boss breathing fire all over them if a bit of bad PR gets out.

It is rather clearly , oops, NOT so clearly due to the usual inexact usage of English language, but clearly enough that people without the usual Thai bashing intent should understand that the concern is well founded; "...statistics revealed that the rate of child deaths by drowning was strikingly high from the past 10 years between 2007 and 2016.The rate was twice as high for children aged between five and nine years old."
So it would appear that some of you approve of the deaths of Thai kids, think that "the nanny state" should just ignore it all, and do nothing to reduce the statistics if it might interfere with YOUR fun.

decent ideas; would require encouraging critical thinking here; authorities here, for obvious reasons, do Not want that

Why warn for firecrackers. According to what I´ve heard they shall not be allowed this year either.
Does that means they already know that the shop owners and vendors selling thoose, just don´t care about what they say.

There are 34 letters in his name , not really a risk but if I spent all day trying to pronounce that name I would still be  wrong at sundown.

"So it would appear that some of you approve of the deaths of Thai kids",

Are you by any chance a ... politician???

That stuff is a daily occurrence here that nobody has done anything about...:coffee1:
