The Commerce Ministry has warned “Blue Flag” or Thong Fah Pracharat shops of tough legal action if they overcharge prices of daily neccessities sold to low-income earners using welfare smartcards.

Deputy Commerce Minister Sontirat Sontijirawong said on Friday (Nov 3) that the ministry received numerous complaints from smartcard holders that some Blue Flag shops have overcharged prices of goods.

Some shops even sell goods in package of 200 baht and 300 baht which is tantamount to forced sale as some items in the package are not wanted by buyers but have no choice as they spent in smartcards, not cash, he said.
