DEPARTMENT of Special Investigation (DSI) is set to take over seven controversial cases, including one related to the previous government’s fake rice export deal in which money-laundering charges are pending.

Deputy premier Wissanu Krea-ngam will chair the meeting of DSI’s board of directors to consider these “special cases” next week. Three cases have been proposed to DSI by the Anti-Money Laundering Organisation (AMLO). In the fake government-to-government rice export case, AMLO is pursuing charges against Siam Indiga Co and its major shareholder, Apichart Chansakulporn, over the use of fraudulent government-to-government (G-to-G) contracts.

The defendants did not export the rice to China on a G-to-G basis as announced by the Thai Commerce Ministry, but instead repackaged the rice purchased from the previous government’s rice-pledging scheme for domestic sales. Previously, over Bt7 billion worth of assets owned by Siam Indiga and Apichart were confiscated by authorities pending further legal actions.

In addition, AMLO is pursuing a money-laundering charge against a former employee of the Mass Communication Organisation of Thailand (MCOT). The employee allegedly took a bribe of over Bt600,000 from Rai Som Co in return for allowing the firm to air TV commercials exceeding the limit set by MCOT, causing financial damage of over Bt130 million to the state agency.

Other cases include the embezzlement of more than Bt2.5 billion from a teachers’ welfare fund, and the sale of unreliable testing devices by a private firm to the armed forces.

Could these be the so-called "Bomb Detectors"?

If ever there were to be a serious investigation, it'd be snuck into a story like this...

...a few words at the end without context.

Weasels!

No investigation of the armed forces who made the purchase of the fake devices?

  • Thailand's military refused to concede it was duped over its $20 million acquisition of the GT200 that was in fact a home-made plastic box with a radio antenna made for US$6
  • Thailand’s army chief Anupong Paojinda, an architect of the 2014 coup that restored the military to power repeatedly defended the use of the fake detector even as tests cast serious doubt over its efficacy.

  • Fourth Army Region commander Lt Gen Pichet Pisaichorn, who oversaw the restive South, said he would continue using the GT200 detectors even though scientific tests have proved them to be ineffective.
  • The performance was no better than throwing dice - dog sniffers gave better results.

The guy that took a 600,000 baht backhander will be the first scapegoat. Peanuts given all the millions that have been made from other Govt. / Military personnel...

Always amazes me how Govt. / military personnel have so much wealth given their paltry salaries.

Lots of nicely padded brown envelopes no doubt...:whistling::whistling:

Their wealth increases with every coup when they have the keys to the jackpot. Now you know why there are so many coups and so many wealthy generals.

The bloke who sold them the fake bomb detectors went to jail in the UK for paying bribes - he comes from my hometown.

I'm sure that the legal attache at the British Embassy could tell the DSI who had the money, the list is probably in his pending tray - if they ever ask....

So if the DSI are looking for cases to investigate why not start with the GT200 affair and ask the PM why he was the guy who said they worked, but his men where ill trained or too tired to use them, just after the UK government and MOD said they where a load of rubbish and jailed the guy for fraud. The blimp (airship) is another case and when you have done those there are 100's more like that.

Auditor-general wants action over alleged collusion with foreign maker of bogus detector.

http://www.nationmultimedia.com/news/national/aec/30288665

  • AUDITOR-GENERAL Pisit Leela-vachiropas has told the Anti-Corruption Operation Centre and the Office of Money Laundering to sue and seize the assets of the Thailand-based sales agent of the bogus GT200 bomb detector and device.
  • Asked if there would be further investigation into any irregularities surrounding the purchase of the bomb detector, Prayut loudly said: “What more can you probe? They have stopped using the device long ago, probably throwing them into the bin. They used them for a while and when it was proven that they were not effective, they stopped using them.”

Hmm, let me think.

Maybe probe who approved the purchase?

Oh wait, no that can't be subject to a probe, because that would involve Prayut.
