Illegal loggers in 20-minute gun battle with authorities

By The Nation

Authorities engaged in a pre-dawn gunfight with 10 suspected illegal loggers on the Phanom Dongrak Mountain Range in Si Sa Ket’s Phu Sing district on Sunday, said Huai Sala Wildlife Sanctuary head Trakul Art-aran.

Following the 20-minute gun battle at 2am, after which all of the suspects escaped, 15 special task force soldiers and forestry officials waited until 5am to inspect the scene, where they collected an Ak-47 rifle with 29 bullets, a chainsaw and four “yaba” amphetamine pills.

Authorities had staked out the area since Saturday night following an informant’s tip-off that a group of illegal loggers would sneak into the area located about three kilometres from the Thai-Cambodia border to cut down Siamese rosewood and other hardwood trees.

The junked up loggers held the special forces at bay and then escaped with a 3 hour head start. Amazing!

Pretty sure they did not want to risk dying over wood.  If they followed, they could have been ambushed in the dark.  The criminals are willing to die for their livelihood.  Any law enforcement person will tell you that good criminals do not get caught.

this rings bells same story as the so-called insurgents down south. only down south I think they do not want to kill or capture.

Major reason the Thai army did not follow in the dark is that area is infested with land mines from the Pol Poet/Hun Sen  and their merry bunch of murdering thugs as the land mines they planted are still killing and maiming Thais and Khmer on both side of the border from Chong Chom to Preah Vihear. The below photo was taken in 2013 but don not kid yourself this shyt is still out there.
