Actually there are 13 qualifications required to be a Thai monk.

Whoever does the checking must have had their hands full

No reason why he should not have met the qualifications, they are things like being human, not being diseased, owning a robe, they are quite basic qualifications.

Well he does display some human traits in the video, no comment on your second acceptance qualification, and yes he was wearing a robe which beggars the question was it his

Bring on the next ten please

A man, not a slave, over 20, has parents permission, not in debt and not working for the government, that's actually all of them as five of them are of specific  diseases.

Not much difference between the greens and the robes is there both have been ripping off the public with their bullSh>> ideas for years, but there are those who are simply more stupid as they give them money, mad-cow disease perhaps.

Well in that case if there are only eight qualifications then I might have been in with a slight chance

Now I am curious about the five specific diseases

This has turned out to be really interesting,  to say my original comment was just sarcasm based on the video evidence

Well this bad behavior of a monk is another brick for me to never ever respect a monk or even bend down my head. I never did it for a priest as well!

I never understand people who still believe in the honesty of the monks......robbery, drugs drug dealing, money laundery , abuse of children and and and....

Sorry, there is also the need to be independent, as well as being clear of four diseases, leprosy, pustule, tuberculosis and epilepsy.

And why does she have to visit 9 Wats on a single day?

That is not quite right: I can attend a temple today and leave next week. Qualification? Not drinking alcs or taking drugs maybe

Also: there are a lot monks here originally from Burma. If they were prosecuted there.....who cares.

To become a monk is easy here. Many choose this as a profession to make money not because of belief.

Some years ago we bought some land: owner was a monk. He owns more than 50 rai. So?

You can only attend if you can pass the 13 qualifiers, all of them apply to everyone.

Not 100% sure what your comment about Myanmarese monks is meant to imply but there are plenty of Thai monks who are former convicts, the temple welcomes people wanting to reform their lives, surely you didn't think that having a criminal record should bar someone from becoming a monk?!?!??!

There are people everywhere using the cloth to make money, it is nothing unique to Thailand.

And monks being able to own land is normal, most of them do not remain monks forever and so why would they be expected to sell it before starting out, selling it while a monk is another thing and something that has been addressed throughout the Buddhist world, some forbidding it, some allowing it, others limiting it.

Sounds like a religion based on Ad Hoc values?

The only time I went to a Muay Thai match in Bkk there were senior looking monks taking cash out of white donation envelopes to gamble on the bouts. I avoid giving these people anything if it can be avoided these days and have very little respect for any of them, until proven they deserve it.

Religions all around the world paying off law suits - rape, (M & F, adult & child), bringing up bastard offspring, etc; do their disciples know where their donations are going?
