The Interior Ministry’s general department of identification has urged two million people with incorrect civil records to amend their personal information with officials. The department on Wednesday issued the announcement saying citizens could come to amend name spellings and incorrect ages or genders on any working day.

“People can come to correct or cancel their records at the general department of identification in Phnom Penh’s Chbar Ampov district on National Road 1,” the announcement said, adding they can also make the changes at their local city hall, district or commune offices. Mao Chandara, director of the ministry’s identification department, said last week the government is holding incorrect personal information on about two million people due to problems with registering civil records between 2002 and 2006.

He said the incorrect records would be revised within two years. Phun Sokha, 35, a resident of Phnom Penh’s Por Senchey district, said yesterday that he planned to correct his date of birth on his family book, ID card and study certificates.
