Venus and jupiter conjunction

Featured Replies

Apparently Venus and Jupiter are going to be in conjunction just before Dawn tomorrow. And you can see it with your naked eyes in some places. But I can't find any information about Thailand. Any geeks out there who knows if we can see it?

there's going to be a consistent small separation between them, for the aprrox period 2am - 4am  (visible)

There's a lot of Earth wobble to compensate for, as they expand/contract their separation...

The combination gets closest together approx 6am   (not visible)

 - and again, much closer, at approx 6pm on same day (not visible)

Input your Long/Lat into Stellarium for getting the finest detail, for your actual location,

... but an approx 15 deg Nth, 101 deg East; is a simple general Thailand location to recall for inputting...

Interesting (maybe) after a google search:

When the two planets are at their closest point, the distance to Jupiter is only 365 million miles (588 million kilometers). From its closest point, Jupiter shines so brightly that even Venus dims in comparison. At its farthest, the gas giant lies 601 million miles (968 million km) away.

Meanwhile, over here most officials continue to talk from Uranus..... sorry, couldn’t resist...

20 baht. But just stop here, you go look gem.

From an article in Thai language the astronomical society invites people to watch between 5:30 to 6:00 AM tomorrow morning (13. Nov) on the "eastern sky".

Something about 0.45 degrees (distance?).

OK that's good then dose it say if you can see it with the naked eye? I will just go to the roof of my Condo in pattaya at about 5am with one of those star glazing apps on my phone so I can work out where jupiter and venus are and hope I can see.

And the official report from a roof top in Jomtien is absolutely nothing. I couldn't even see the sun. I did manage to see a Thai man in his pants having a early morning cigarette. So after that it's back to my PlayStation.
