Some of us have no social skills, have personality disorders that prevent them communicating and understand other human beings, or are just anti social and freaks.  These are the kinds of people that mostly feed packs of street dogs, and become animal hoarders living in filthy stinking conditions with neglected animals.

These people tend not to socialise with humans, instead having the animals as their 'friends' as the animals are totally dependant on them and make them feel important, when in fact they are social misfits with a negative impact on society.

They spend most of their time sitting alone in their filthy houses covered in animal filth and parasites, living a very sad and pathetic life... and in need of psychological help.

And, if they have any family, even their own children, they think a stinky aggressive wild dog is worth 100000 times more than their own children!

Could be worse as this post indicates.

they could be asshats.

Because they eat them.

As I suspect some street-food enjoying farangs in Thailand are as well...

Soi dogs are a threat to public health and safety, I don't care how much of a dog-lover you are.   If you spay or neuter a few of them, that'll amount to no more than a drop in the ocean.  Even if you could somehow manage to spay or neuter every last one, the population would be reinforced within a month by the next generation of "discards".  They need to be rounded up and humanely euthanized, and on an ongoing basis.   If the bleeding hearts feeding them are so kind-hearted, then open a shelter and care for them!  Feeding them just helps perpetuate the cruelty of leaving them to the streets, not to mention the risk to the public.  The morons feeding them are almost as much a scourge as the soi dogs.

LOL   So your case is so pathetic, you have to equate soi dogs with children?

So since you bring it up, it's in part the danger to CHILDREN that's in play here.  Would you let your child play in a street with possibly rabid soi dogs rather than DO something about the soi dogs?  I guess so.

Because they are  hungry and they are domesticated animals - man's best friend. It is not their fault their dirt-bag owners deserted them. I have had some great pets that I rescued from the street.

That might be the case in a few instances, but they seem to be perfectly capable of breeding and raising pups on their own. Providing food can be found.

Don't know why the OP particularly asks why farangs do it, seems apparent. Have a Thai lady in my area goes around in her car with a large bag of food  every other day. Apparently a monk told her to do it after some bad luck. A farang would be more likely as he sees a dog as a domestic pet and friend as they usually are in the West.  I find them a nuisance, the  noise and mess they leave behind is an aggravation, and they make it risky to walk or run around the area.

Simple, I feed, treat and help spay/neuter them because I want these dogs to be as healthy as possible and because I feel anger about the subhuman scum who abandoned and abused them. We’ve adopted 7 and they’re fantastic companions.

Healthy, socialised (and preferably neutered) street & beach dogs are far safer for their human neighbours than hungry, diseased and scared ones.  And no, I’ve never been bitten by an aggressive soi dog, only barked at when they were uncertain.

Until Thailand figures out how to educate people to look after dogs properly and sets up proper humane shelters and pounds, the dogs and cats are here to stay. Poison is not only dangerous for human children and incredibly cruel to the animals, it’s also a waste of time. Before the month is out new dogs have been dumped in the same area.

Better to feed something with leftover grub than let it rot.

But NEVER go back to clean up the poop. The people who feed stray dogs are responsible for all the poop on the streets. Yet the NEVER clean it up. Filthy people.

Feeding a stray dog is the same as throwing your garbage in the street to rot.

No but that child probably does not bite people, chase cyclists, run out into traffic, cause property damage, breed with up to 10 offspring at a time etc.

Sounds like you’ve never been to India and haven’t had much contact with human children either.

This is why some are smart enough to avoid having stupid kids.

Some of the responses on here just reinforce the fact of why I like dogs more than a lot of humans.

So much for the sick and starving children of the world...    With attitudes like that I guess you need all the "reinforcement" you can get.

Good luck finding a Thai vet who will euthanise a suffering animal let alone suggest that Thais round up all soi dogs and euthanise them.

About the same as finding someone willing to do more than grow the problem by throwing food at them I would imagine.

If I had a child I considered to be in any danger, I'd handle the matter myself with whatever means was at hand.   'Sorry.   'Really don't want to be unnecessarily cruel, but a child would come first.   So would other humans, to be honest.

I didn't need any but thanks.

By the way what organization have you started, or contribute too, to save sick and starving children(?), I'll send them a donation. Just for your info I've contributed many times over many years to lots of different orphanages in Pattaya, especially the smaller ones that need more help getting started.
