First biomass power plant in Surin started feeding power to grid yesterday

The first biomass power generator in Surin province yesterday (Jan 12) started feeding the electricity grid of the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT).

Mr. Thongchai Mungcharoenphorn (ธงชัย มุ่งเจริญพร), the head of the Surin Provincial Administration Organization, said the power plant received endorsements from the Board of Investment for its 600 million baht construction of the 9.9 megawatt plant. The construction took about two years to finish. The plant utilizes biomass as fuel.

Yesterday, the plant started to feed eight megawatts of electricity into the power grid, and it was able to supply about 17 percent of the total power needed in the province.

Mr. Thongchai the fuel for the plant is leftover materials from rice milling process, which is abundant locally.

will the rice hulks be plentiful throughout the year or will they need to buy and burn something else at other times of the year? always a consideration when relying on seasonal crops.
