Business registrations up 18 percent in October

BANGKOK, 17th November 2017 (NNT) – Continued economic expansion this year has boosted the confidence of business operators, with more than 6,000 new companies registered in October, bringing the year’s total so far to over 60,000.

The Department of Business Development (DBD) this week reported that 6,003 new companies were established in October, an 18 percent increase on the same period last year. Total registered capital for the month was 40 billion baht.

The strong figures have been attributed to continuing economic growth supported by government stimulus and growth in the tourism industry, real estate sector and restaurant industry, which were the three sectors with the highest rates of registration in October.

Overall, a total 61,615 new businesses have registered this year, up 14 percent on last year.

At the same time in October, 1,797 businesses were shuttered, 13 percent more on-year. For the entire year, business closures are down 0.3 percent.

And yet the good general is hiring civilians now to fix the economy.  People are starting their own businesses as they may not have any other options.

The outlook is not good. The GDP growth for every neighbouring country is more than double that of Thailand. Thailand's predicted growth for the year 2017 is 3.3%. The lowest of all the neighbouring countries is Cambodia on 6.9%. The others (including Laos) range between 7.3% and 7.7%.

The claim of "continuing economic growth supported by government stimulus" is nothing more than garbage pumped out to feed the masses. Pitiful to say the least!

There has not been a squeak out of PM Prayut about his ASEAN gathering. Perhaps he was ashamed to be mingling with the leaders of the high growth countries around him.

That seems like a huge improvement, until you realize that it was that exact month a year ago that HM King Bhumibul died which might have had a depressing effect on the number of new businesses started that month.
