Where to Buy tempered-glass cut-to-size ?

The plastic-shelves in my fridge have given-up-the-ghost !

So I need to buy some strong/tempered-glass, cut to the correct size, to replace them.

Unfortunately the shop which did this for me several years ago has now closed, would anyone know where else this service might be available, here in Chiang Mai (ideally north-side of town !) ?

Shop named something Mai At, maybe Wira MaiAt. On the road on the west side of the Ping river south of the Super about 2/3 of the way from the Super to the first traffic light. Big plywood and glass shop. West side of street.

Tempered glass is not 'cut to size'. The glass is cut to size and then heat tempered to make it safety glass. If you had glass cut in a shop it is not tempered.

Indeed, attempting to cut tempered glass results in the world's most difficult jigsaw.

For fridge shelves, regular glass (with some sort of opaque pattern) is just fine

For a table you need tempered glass, there are specialist suppliers who will make you a table top to order. Not cheap mind

AGC Flat Glass (Thailand)

EDIT If you have a kiln you can do it yourself.

I'll just nip out and buy a suitable kiln ...

How about that sticky back plastic for windows sold in all major mega stores.

This will give a little extra strength to the glass and stop fragments going all over the place should it actually break.

You can get it various colours and patterns including opaque patterns.

I reckon that would do the trick, it would also help hold the bits together if you do break it. I would have the plastic on the underside of the shelf.

My local glass guy is 80 years old......

He cuts the standard glass , buffs the edges  and sends it to the shop who tempers it ,  he has been doing this the last 50 plus years......

I was told by another glass guy that you can "reverse" this process and "un-temper"  glass ,  cut it to size and then temper it again ,

This was when you were chopping the top on an old car......

Not sure if thats possible , but an interesting  idea

You can indeed, if it's just tempered, if it's laminated as well forget it.

How long does your local chaps tempering service take, could be a useful man to know.

Visiting Los Angeles soon ?

I have never been to the tempering place , I just go to "Mr French"  and he cuts the flat glass and sends  it out to the temper shop , thinking about it I better go see him and find out where they are ,

Mr French is 80+ years old and pretty frail , but still opens the shop every day.....

Insorn is at the junction of Mahidol Rd (1141) and CM-Lamphun Rd (106) - see the exact location on my map (it's the third item in the index)

I have had them make large colored glass kitchen splashbacks and clear glass table tops, all tempered.  Always reliable and decent prices as far as I can tell although I've never bothered to shop around for tempered glass - just pleased to find a good local supplier.

Guys, can you be a bit more specific on the location? I'm looking for some tempered glass for a table...

Thanks...

The shop is where Bill described it, it's a standalone 2-3-shopfront-building, name in Thai/Chinese only, with parking for 3-4 cars at the front, and a side-track which leads to the rear-entrance for deliveries.  It looks more like a general builder-store, from the road, but has a lot of sheet-glass & wood-board down the back-end.

Two of the staff spoke quite-good English, which was also a help !
