I don't know make-up of PM's Cabinet reshuffle list: Wissanu

Wissanu.

Deputy Prime Minister Wissanu Krea-ngam said on Monday that he had no idea to what extent Prime Minister General Prayut Chan-o-cha had processed the Cabinet reshuffle list, adding that he did not know which names were on the list – or even whether he himself would stay in office.

Wissanu said the Cabinet Secretariat Office would review the new ministers’ qualifications, but for those running businesses, they should clarify their interests to the office.

Speculation over ministerial changes in a Cabinet reshuffle – the fifth during Prayut’s administration – heightened with the PM confirming on Friday that he had finalised his reshuffle and that the list was in the process of seeking royal endorsement.

The matter is expected to be settled by next month, he added.

Prayut has said his military senior classmates Deputy PM and Defence Minister General Prawit Wongsuwan and Interior Minister General Anupong Paochinda, and his close friend Agriculture and Cooperatives Minister General Chatchai Sarikulya, will remain in the Cabinet.

Classmates, close friends and generals - Adequate enough qualifications for Prayut.

What does this trumpet-blowing tell us?

  1. That Prayut had finalised his 5th reshuffle in 4 years . . . . . proof positive that he hasn't got a clue as to what his merry men can do or, for that matter, whether they've got to the point of saying, "It's all a waste of time . . . let's just not bother . . . as long as we look busy!"
  2. The list was in the PROCESS of seeking royal endorsement . . . OK, that's understandable. By end of Nov., he says.
  3. The Cabinet Secretariat Office would review the new ministers’ qualifications. Cart-before-horse, as usual. Surely the qualifications of candidates should have been checked before Prayut started to shuffle the deck. What happens, now, if their qualifications aren't up to the mark . . . reshuffle No.6? Come on Prayut . . . wake up!
  4. But for those running businesses, they should clarify their interests to the office. Again, cart-before-horse, since any possible conflicts of interest should have been determined from day one of the Junta, 3 1/2yrs ago.

Conclusion: Business as usual. No one cares; nothing of significance will even be attempted, let alone achieved.

P.S.

Like 'Ben', the revered headmaster of my old secondary school, said in assembly one morning, presumably upset by something he'd heard on the radio news . . . "This country's going to the dogs!" And the old boy meant it, too, he was red in the face and spent the next ten minutes advising 600 bored teenagers how we could each make a difference to the society in which we were lucky enough to have been born. I'll NEVER forget those words and his thought-provoking rant. Thailand could do with a Ben or two, right now, I reckon.

Just don't have the courage to pull the trigger on them. Many times Prawit has contradicted Prayut on the roadmap and offered little in terms of assuring safety and security to the country. Never visited the South and has not done much to reduce the conflict. Anupong is almost an invisible minister and seldom seen nor heard in spite of his important portfolio. His biggest failure got to be the lack of will and participation to reform the police. Chatchai has failed in his job as ACM and yet he remain in the cabinet just because he is a 'close friend'. Really business as usual and will unlikely to see much improvement in the new cabinet.

To put it delicately, the whole business of Thai 'government' STINKS. Thais know it; the world knows it and THEY KNOW IT . . . but can't admit to the simple fact that there's more than a bit of difference between reporting for duty at the barracks and flashing their ID badges at Government House. Perhaps being chauffeured to work in the Merc might have something to do with it, too. And another little thing that bugs me about these big boys. Just look at P2's watch . . . a million bahts there for sure. He won't be giving this life style up easily. And someone should tell him . . . it's rude to point!
