Trump declares North Korea state sponsor of terrorism, triggers sanctions

For a collective bunch of learned folks (by your own assertions) you've completely missed the point. What President Trump has done now allows him to tighten the squeeze on China's proverbial sack and "insist" they do more because he can now close down their banking system (at least a large enough portion of it to make it hurt) for continuing to do business with NK.

Guess that's what Xi gets for "playing him" as so many here thought after the Asian trip.

The collective wisdom is that Trump would do no such thing.

What. There weren't sanctions before.  Personal observation: Within the next 2 decades, if the US doesn't trigger a nuclear holocaust in the meantime, US sanctions will become irrelevant, probably about the time that the US dollar is no longer used as the reserve currency or 'petro-dollar' - a day which is fast approaching - well, unless the entire world becomes irradiated.  I don't rule that out for a minute.

Wish I had an about-to-be-irrelevant USA petro-dollar for every time I've heard or read such predictions.

More importantly for all of Trump's promises made during his campaign (China is raping the US on trade; China is a currency manipulator, China is dumping in US), he has not done such thing.

And he doesn't need to apply sanctions against China. He need only by Presidential Order to remove China from the US Most Favored Nations trade status that was granted to China in 1998  providing a pathway to raising import tariffs on China.

Which he can do very easily now after he sanctions their banks for doing business with a terrorist state. 1 step at a time. :coffee1:

Never happen in our lives. No good alternatives.

As Morch said,  we've heard this a thousand times over the years.

Ha, ha..... you remind me of when Ronald Reagan got elected..  My socialist sister-in-law was at our home that day and she freaked out claiming that Ronald Reagan "...is the most dangerous man in the world. He'll start World War III.  He's going to kill us all."   She also claimed that Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher of England... President Ronald Reagan's friend.... was the most dangerous woman in the world.

My sister-in-law never had anything bad to say about Fidel Castro, Pol Pot, Mao Zedong, Leonid Brezhnev, Yuri Andropov, Konstatin Cherneko, or any other commmunist dictator.

But WOW... did she ever hate Reagan and Thatcher.        It made for some heated dinner conversations..  Oh well.
