Police seek budget to buy e-ticket devices

By The Nation

Police will again submit a request budget funds to purchase e-ticket devices to modernise the method for booking motorists who violate the traffic law, a senior police officer said.

Pol Maj-General Jiraphat Phumichit, deputy commissioner of the Metropolitan Police Bureau, said the bureau had already sought a budget from the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration for the purchase of the devices but its request had not been answered.

As a result, Jiraphat said, the bureau will resubmit its request because the devices would make the enforcement of the traffic law in the capital much more effective.

He said traffic police are in the process of upgrading their online database of traffic violators that will be linked to the Land Transport Department and the Traffic Command Centre.

Once the online database is completed, the handheld e-ticket devices would permit more effective law enforcement and reduce confrontation between traffic law violators and police, Jiraphat added.

Nothing like as effective as the police actually enforcing the law.

And who will fine all those motobikes driving around without licenseplates in BKK....I see one every 3 minutes.

Ah well, that would be far more efficiently done electronically - an "e-ticket machine will read the number from the CCTV, identify the owner, and electronically send him a penalty. Far more efficient don't you see?

Ah, umh, hang on a minute......
